I was playing a computer game, I listed it in the title, and a question popped up in my head. I don't know if someone's recently done a thread on this or not, so tell me if they have. My question is what is your favorite civilization of all time?

I always like playing the Egyptians because of the location. I have played Aztecs, too, to start in North America. Thinking about this I realized I hadn't ever started in the Far East. I must turn myself in for re-education. :p

Why do you only have ancient civilizations up on the poll? Surely plenty of modern ones have progressed much farther in technology, human rights and liberty.

I sincerely do not know if you are talking about the History and Culture of those civs, or about the game civilizations.
In any case, Rome all the way!

I like to play all of them actually. However, I tend to keep coming back to Rome, and I also play England quite a bit for the Redcoat unique unit (I mean, he's drinking tea, how funky is that?)

In real life, I admire the Greeks. They were some of the greatest thinkers of their age. Some say they invented many aspects of Science.

Ancient Mesoamerican cultures are interesting, because the only things we know about them come from their few surviving texts and also certain blatant lies propogated by the Conquistadors; I chose Ancient Mayan Civilization.
In the actual game Civ 4, I have no real preference for any particular civ. I just choose random every time.

Yeah, even though their medical practises were nearly all pretty crazy; they were the first (after the ancient Egyptians) to move away from religiously based cures. The fact that their practises were used for so many years makes the Greeks a truly great civilisation.

Rome.

They all suck. Ancient Greece might be in with a shot if it weren't for the slavery and complete patriarchy.

In Civ 3 (I don't have Civ 4): the Iroquois.

I love both. 4 is vastly superior; if you have a system that can handle it.

I suggest you play it. I actually liked III more, but IV is pretty good.
I don't have a favorite civ in IV(probably the French and Russians), but the Ottomans were by far my fave in III

The Siphai were insane; you got the equivalent of a tank in the Middle Ages that could hammer the enemy and could still move thanks to its 2 movement points. Plus, the Scientific trait kept you ahead in the tech race; the Siphai was a good deal stronger than the other Medieval powerhouses like the Beserker.
Still, the most powerful unit was the Immortal. 4 attack in the Ancient age was too much for anyone but the Greeks or Romans to defend against.
