Well it seems pakistan has built a nucleur reactor that could produce enough plutonium to build 40 to 50 nucleur weapons a year. Could this start an arms race between Pakistan and India or even as far as the whole middle east? What do your think?

I think that this is bad for Pakistan. India is becoming a new power and the USA are beginning to deal with them more fluently than with Pakistan. If the world keeps going this way, I wouldn't get stranged if in 2010-2015 Pakistan is included in the "Axis of Evil" for owning nuclear weapons and supporting the Quran's schools, while India is protected and funded. You have just pointed the rise of the new North Korea. I explain it to myself evaluating the USA terms: In Iraq the americans were (overall) damaged. The Middle-East war can isolate them more

Pakistan is digging their own grave if you ask me

India is way more powerful and can crush them easily

however, they could be going for a "Force de frappe" thing

I believe that Pakistan is an Observer member of the SCO which, combined with long term Chinese military and economical support, makes it a little more complicated than some may think.

Pakistan/ India is lining up to be one of the key front lines (at least politically) of the 21st Century.

It will be interesting to see where India goes if its application for full membership of the SCO is accepted (both are Observers and both have applied for full membership). Russia wants India invovled (understandably) but it isn't that attractive for India given that its application has forced their US into sweetening the relationship substantially.

Havent both Pakistan and India had nuclear weapons for a while?

Honestly, I don't see anything different happening, as both countries know the other would hit "the button" if they launched a nuke, so neither will. MAD and all that.

At *worst* I can forsee some "milita" groups not sponsered by the pakistani government itself doing terrorist attacks against India, but not a full scale war.

Not only that, but nuking india would amount to nuking a good portion of their muslim brothers as well, since India has a greater population of muslims than pakistan itself (by virtue of being so large. something like 15% of the indian population is muslim, but 15% of a billion is larger than the entire population of pakistan).

It doesn't matter how many nuclear weapons they have, it is the possibility of a coup at some distant (or maybe not) point in the future.
