NS Intellectual Group

The Scandinvans

The reason why I have decided to start this off was in order to establish a new NS group that real aim is to provide a place for debating and for people to seek to learn about new topics without having to go to excessive means to get the answer to.

Generally, this group is open to anyone who has a real desire to debate, discuss topics, teach, and learn. The only qualifications are that you are willing to discuss things in a polite and orderly way, will not take everything personally, and are willing to take part in this Group. By the way no one is required to present any sings of their intelligence and it is requested no one boast about this feats.

And what do you know?
Because that may help people asking the group for advise.

What do you mean by a group, membership, etc.? Do you have an external website planned or something, or do you just mean threads here on NSGen? How will you keep track of membership? And since when is NSGen in general (NPI) not a place to find good debate?

As for keeping track of them on the list on the top of page.

if you hope to keep this in ns general and keep high standards for debate you are setting yourself up for a world of frustration

most people here are smart enough and knowlegeable enough in the threads they post for any general forum. the trouble is that they have no compunction against spamming, flaming, trolling, plus doing it all again with puppets. you cant keep assholes out of your threads.

Good luck. Many on NSG are both honorable and courteous, but the significant population that are not are garunteed to degrade and destroy any debate eventually. But I love the slow degredation af debate. Its hilarious to watch. And/or participate in.

Thread evolution is the most interesting thing. One person posts a single comment and it goes from gay marriage to Iraq war to Hezballah to RP in a few pages...

Alright, you are now listed as a member.

I'll join, but am, as everyone else seems to be, a bit worried about the rules and how we could get them enforced. However, I suppose the majority could respect those that wish for pure debate without any of the other stuff. There will always be the exception, but mere ignoring should work.
I'm in.

What is the point of the group?

If you are here for long enouigh you get to know which are the posters that have serious things to say. You don't need to create an exclusive group for this. Further, an occasional light comment in a serious discussion is a good thing at times. If being a member of this group would debar you from making such comments - which does seem to be part of the specification, then why would anyone want to join?

We should definetly discuss the rules though.

Some people on NS, and I think it is fine and enjoy reading the threads that are started using this method, start threads by using news articles that are cut and pasted from some other source. This to me would not constitute an argument and should not be used. However, we would want to allow people to use supporting evidence that may be cut and pasted from a website. You see, it could get a little convoluted.

We could start by ignoring any off topic posts.

EDIT: If it turns to a habitual thing form the user, we post a pic of Paris Hilton.

I think it is a good idea. Not that I know a lot about NS, but sometimes a little light comment turns in to quite a few light comments. This is fine, but I would definetly be interested in a formal discussion group.

I'll join, promising to be good. I'll mostly stick to techie threads though.

How would we distinguish a NS Intellectual Group thread? Toss NSIG in thee title?

Also, what if we nicely ask the mods to be more......post-deat happy. Even if one or two help, they could greatly aid in keeping things on topic.
