And since NS General is the eventual depistory of all knowledge, she wants me to come here.

Was the Third Reich supposed to last one thousand or ten thousand years?

One Thousand. The Term Reich is meant to imply a Thousand year Empire.

Google's your friend, just find her a website with information on that.

Er... no. The term Reich translates as "realm". But it was occasionally referred to as the "tausendjaehrige Reich", the realm that lasts a thousand years.

It's suppose to be a thousand years and I believe Hitler. Even after the supposed fall of nazis, they were not destroyed, just went underground. And i'm not talking about skinheads but the American-left.. (Oh for that matter the world.)

Close enough. My German isn't very good.

Which is sad, because I'm ethnically German ;)

EDIT: I never said the exact translation either. I only said it Implies a thousand year Empire, not that it literally means that.

One thousand years - indeed his chief architect Albert Speer would later recall that Hitler demanded a set of drawings for each monumental piece of architecture, depicting how the ruins would look three thousand years hence.

Google, prolly comes from googul. A googul is 1*10^100. I suppose he means the third reich was supposed to last 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 years.

Yeah. And what's with the base-10 obsession? Every ruler always wants their empire to last 100 or 1000 years and it ends up lasting 16. I think they'd be more successful at conquering with a "Thirty Year Reich" or something similarly pragmatic, but noooo...

Yeah, because then you can fit the immortal angle in to it and maybe even some religious symbolism if you're particularly ambitious. It's a nice, open ended way of keeping potential usurpers in line. If you die, the reich dies.

Well, yeah. I'm the German Nightmare for them Romans :D

Anyway, come to think of it: The Third Reich may very well last for a thousand years. In our heads, that is - after all, it's only another 927 years to go and still many people answer "Nazis" as the first thing to think of when "Germany" is the topic.
Which is really sad. Then again, I make sure that the shoa and the holocaust will not be forgotten anytime soon. It's a moral obligation. *shrugs*
