On Myspace there is a petition to Tom, the head guy, to get him to get rid of a group called "fuck the troops". Is this an example of PC run amok?

Well it is the man's site, and he decides what stays and what goes on his site.

I wouldn't say so. Expression of dislike for a group and its actions is one thing; actively wishing harm on other people is quite another. The MySpace group is an example of the latter rather than the former.

Personally, however, I'd quite like to see MySpace go up in smoke either way. Damn kids keep wrecking my digital lawn. It weren't like this back in my day!

I'm not disputing that. A lot of political correctness is either self enforced or enforced by private agents. The tv show Politically Incorrect was shut down when corporate sponsors wouldn't pay for commercials because the host of the show said the 9/11 terrorists weren't cowards. There was a thread on here about a private Christian school that banned a Beatles' song. Or consider how lame this sight would be if there was more much more mod censorship.

Do they have groups that are along the lines of "fuck the terrorists" where they wish harm on them? Are those OK?

I believe so on the former question and would say not on the latter. It's sad that the world leaders have very subtly changed their track from "The Forces of Terror" to "Terrorists"; where once the aim may have been to protect our land and homes from the threat of ideological attack, it has become painfully clear now that our leaders are specifically seeking to eliminate people who they consider may pose a threat. Is that not disgusting? That we are systematically and deliberately eliminating those who might oppose us? We're talking "Night of the Long Knives" on a global scale, here.

However, evidently, Political Correctness has changed alongside Politics, and while I personally feel it to be reprehensible to attack certain individuals, it is certainly not politically incorrect to do so in this era.

My comment wished to touch on the hypocrisy that would lie in allowing a "fuck the terrorists/the enemy du jour" group and not allowing a "fuck the troops" one. As you point out, though, many people seem only to find fault in the latter and not the former group.

I contend they are hypocrites until they demand they both be removed. I also contend they are silly for wanting any of them removed, but silliness is not as bad as hypocrisy in this case.

Normally I'd be the first to recommend the War on Terror be extended to include MySpace, however, I made the mistake of dating an avid blogger, so I'll slink away and grumble, instead

"PC run amok", or words to that effect make up a meaningless buzz-phrase that stuffy people like to grumble whenever they are asked not to be racist. Banning open discussion in a public (cyber)venue amounts to oppression. Let's call a spade a spade here (and no, I will not get in to any debate over the political correctness of that phrase)..

Political correctness is really just the avoidance things deemed offensive. It can mean a term used by racists, homophobes, and sexists, yet also saying fuck are troops or the terrorists weren't cowards is also politically incorrect. During the cold war saying communism isn't so bad was, in today's term, politically incorrect.
