Storms

I am afraid of storms. Seriously. There is nothing I hate more than storms. Lightning hit near my house a few weeks ago and it just made me even more scared of it. Two months before that, it hit my neighbor's house and I had to call 911. And the worst part is... people think I'm weird for being afraid of storms. :(

Storms are just nature's way of saying, "Hey! Stay out of that open field!" :)

The only problem I have is with lightning preventing me from safetly using my internet access and the stationary computer. Thanks to my laptop however, I have nothing to fear.

:D They're also nature's way of keeping my dad from mowing the grass.

Hey, I hear you. I've been on the roads in a blizzard that left me with visibility below 100 yards and jsut about no tractions.

I've been stuck outdoors with no shelter in a real nasty thunderstorm.

But those pale in comparison to a storm at sea. The southern Indian Ocean is pretty rough year round. By rough, I mean that a 4800-ton displacement warship was being tossed around like a toy and that they were closing the upper decks in broad daylight. I mean, when the bridge is technically underwater at times, and that you can't see the main gun from the bridge either, that's bad. But we hit a storm in that mess. Only the fringes, mind you, but it was a hard go. The Halifax-class frigates are designed with the North Atlantic winters in mind ad we were having a mighty fun time. A thing of beauty to watch, make no mistake, but there were times the ship would drop 15-20 feet at a time, only to lurch that much the next minute.

Am I ever glad we managed to outrun it.

There's nothing like a thunderstorm and nothing but a tent to protect you to keep you awake all night. :p

I've been there. I camped on a beach on the tip of Long Island as a storm swept over us. It was horrible yet exciting.

I love storms, provided I can view them from a nice safe enclosure such as a house. The force of nature is cool so long as you do not get caught at the focal point. :)

The only problem is, I have to switch off my computers. :(

The only problem is, I have to switch off my computers. :(Made that mistake once. Back during the days of the old lingerie thread, I was leaching of my university's wireless network. Sadly, it didn't quite reach my dorm room, so I had to go outside to enjoy the intarweb. I sought refuge underneath a bus stop shelter at the time, as there were occasional showers going on. When the storm broke, the shelter I had chosen proved inadequate, and I had the time of my life propping up my laptop in a fashion so that the water would run out...
