Agh, migraine
Anyone else get them? I just got one randomly, I was clear for three years or so and then wham, I couldn't focus on things and my eyesight went all funny-like. Now my brain feels like it's being squished into a little ball.
Sucks.
Anyone got any nifty cures they'd like to share?

Boosting oxygen to the brain helps some sufferers. Can you rent a small oxy tank and mask? If so, try it out. If it works for you, buy one.

Yeah, I get them.
Can be caused by anything: bad smell, fatigue, fugly lighting.
Beer? Sleep?

Eh, no migraine for a good while. Just completely random headaches. No biuld-up, it just appears out of nowhere. Like when I drink milk, or walk down stairs, or think about a tree.

Ow! I am sorry for you, my friend. Just take a whole bunch of painkillers and shut out all light. That oxygen thing sounds good, I will try it some time. The beer thing is a mistake. It causes you to get dehydrated and it messes with your sleep. Not good.

that's an interesting idea at least, I guess. I can just picture myself taking scuba gear into exams, etc "just in case" :p

'mm, I have no idea what brought this one on. I was just sitting here and then wham.
Actually, it's not so bad, I took painkillers as soon as I noticed it coming on, so I think I weathered off the worst part of it.
Beer? Sleep?
Hm, sleep might be an idea, but I did only just get up not long ago :p

Yeah, i'm sitting in a dark room right now, and I turned down the contrast on my computer screen a lot so it wouldn't be like staring into a lightbulb. Meh i'm feeling better now. Coffee seemed to help. :)

I never take pain killers. Last time I did, for a foot injury, I ended up with a migraine.

Did a quick search for you, saw this and thought ah maybe it will help a bit:

(2) For Immediate Relief
Most of the treatments in this FAQ are used to prevent migraines
from happening. This section describes things you can do when
you're in pain, to reduce the pain.
-- Have a bath or shower.
-- Lie down to rest in a dark room.
-- Avoid bright or flashing light.
-- Put something cold on the back of your neck, such as
a cold, wet cloth; or alternate hot and cold cloths
where the pain is.
-- Put a cold compress on your forehead and your feet in a
container of warm water.
-- Have a drink of water or natural juice, especially tomato juice.
-- Have some food, or a nutritious drink, if you
haven't eaten for a while.
-- Massage your own face, head, neck and shoulders, or get someone
else to do those and your back. Relax your muscles.
-- Press on two pressure points at the back of the neck. These
points are about two inches apart, just below the base of
the skull. Press for a minute or two. This releases
endorphins that help against pain.
-- Massage or press on the fleshy area between thumb and
forefinger.
-- Gently lean the head to left or right to stretch the neck muscles.
Massage and relax any tense muscles.
-- Avoid sources of stress. Cancel activities so there's less
to worry about.
-- Avoid exercise during a headache if it makes throbbing pain
in the head and neck worse. On
the other hand, generally exercise improves health, and
it may help you relax during a headache.
-- Take some niacin (a form of vitamin B3). Taking enough
niacin to cause a flush (blood rushing to the skin) can
provide relief from headache pain, but this much niacin
can also have side effects (flush, nausea, heartburn,
liver damage, etc.) Niacinamide doesn't have such bad
side effects, but isn't as much use against migraines, either.
Smaller, safer amounts of niacin are also helpful.
Niacin can trigger a migraine, though.
-- Take some vitamin C, vitamin B6, choline, tryptophan and niacin
and/or magnesium.
Hope that helps, even just a bit. Good luck with them in the future!

Ugh! You know, it wouldn't be so bad if I knew exactly what triggered them, but they seem mostly random. Apparently sudden emotional excitement can bring them on - I remember last time I got one it seemed to be because something randomly hilarious happened, and I burst out laughing at it. Well, i'm not exactly going to avoid humour from now on. But apart from that, they're random.
Well, aren't you a lousey slacker.
Not really, I have a cold as well. Resting, and all that. :p

Thanks. :)

Maybe getting laid more often will help. I prescribe twice a day.

I can go to bad seconds after waking up.
I get migraines too. A lot of people say they have a migraine when all they mean is a bad headache. The insidious, defining part of a true migraine is the visual thing beforehand. It's like your body is saying "hey, you're not in pain yet, but haha you're effectively blind and you're GONNA be in pain for fucking hours! just FYI, bitch."
And the nausea part sucks too. I hate migraines.
Asprin+Caffeine seems to dampen the headache part pretty OK.
Marijuana too.
It helps if you can manage to sleep through it. Nothing better actually, since you can avoid it entirely and wake up normal. But getting to sleep in time is difficult and I've only done it once or twice.

Whatever I can do. ;)
I dont really get migraines or bad headaches unless there is one of those "bashed my head against something really hard" kinds. :D But as I said, good luck with them in the future and I hope that link helps a bit.

lol! Any ideas where I can use that perscription? :p

Yep. And occasionally the numbness. Try speaking normally whilst your tongue is tingley. :p

I don't get the nausea, fortunately.
Marijuana too.
Haha, that's among the last things I feel like doing right now.

'mmm. I tried just then, but i'm just not tired yet. :/

East Hastings?
Well, there's always opiates. I'm pretty sure they'll deal with the pain as opiates do....
Regarding the sleep thing, well, do what I do. Always make you're you're missing sleep. It's like keeping a 'reserve' of sleep, so I'm ready to drop consciousness at any time in an emergency.
Also works to counter-act the cockblock, if for some reason a tactical retreat is not possible.

Thats becuase of the caffeine.
I dunno if anyone has mentioned it, but caffeine supposedly causes the capillaries in the brain to dilate, thus increasing blood flow.
This is why some brands of headache medicine such as Excedrin, uses it.
Excedrin is basically aspirin, acetometaphine(tylenol), and caffeine.
Seriously, If I were gonna recommend something to take for a migraine, it would be excedrin.
And thats even above vicodin....wich is very good for pain, and very recreational.
Wish I had a cure for you, but the only thing that helps me when I have a migraine is to take an Imitrex or Maxalt and lie on my bed in a very quiet, very dark room (in close proximity to a bathroom, in case the nausea gets really bad). My friend swears by ice cold water with a lot of lemon juice in it, but that's never done anything for me. Hope you're feeling better!

(nope i don't get them, thankfully, but i've had friends who have and its not nice...)
edit: and all this talk about medicines... aspirin thinns the blood iirc, ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory. maybe taking a good mix of the two (whatever brands they may be called) could be of benefit?

I think any advice I could give has already been given, so I'll instead I'll give you some special anti-migraine fluffles *nods* :fluffle: :fluffle: I do hope you feel better soon :) I've had just a really bad headache, on and off since Sunday, due to heat, and I know how bad that was...
(edit: how am I the first person to have given fluffles?? *sigh* what would NS do without me....? :P)

I think maybe you spring to the fluffle all too soon!
We could have explored the many different treatments of Kanabias ailment, and the potential use of weasels as cures....but no!
You just HAD to jump right to the fluffling!

I used to get them all the time.
They frequency reduced when I cut caffine intake. Especially, when I feel one is coming on. Started going to a backcracker and got my eyes checked and go glasses for reading and computer work.
