I have about an hour to decide whether or not to go to hubby's last softball game of the season, it's 114F outside right now, I don't know if there will be shade or not, it depends on the field we are on and I don't know which one.

I have mild heat exhaustion right now (shakey, nausea, chest pains, ect.) but might be better in time to go.

my dilemma?

1 I don't want to miss the game

2 I don't want to get so sick that I have to go to the hospital

what should I do? completely up to NS, I mean if I am going to be irresponsible I am going to be really irresponsible right?! LOL

It's softball. A girls game played by grown men.

Stay home.

Yes, but take proper precautions, like Nadkor's umbrella and lots and lots of water to drink.

45 degrees? you'll explode!!

as a british person, i can verify this fact :D

my real answer is bring an umberella, a hat, lots of water, and take trips out to the car between innings (if there are such things in the game) to bask in the cool air of AC *nods*

If it's important to you then go. I doubt you'll die from it, just frink plenty of water e.t.c.

You're health is more important than a game.

Big golf umbrella, a small cooler and a couple of towels soaking in the ice water. bottles of water and sports drinks would help.

then, when the games done, he can take you out to eat to a gluten-free meal that you don't have to cook. ;)

what wrong advice... It's his last game of the season. his last hurrah for this year. what's wrong in celebrating it with him.

as long as the proper precautions are taken... sunblock, hydration and keeping things at a slow pace, why can't she have fun herself.

because a Golf Umbrella isn't enough. you also need UV protection, as well as to protect against dehydration.

So, I went, we lost, we went into extra innings, and hubby would have gotten the out and won the game but the idiot playing 3rd ran backwards to try to catch the ball that was coming to hubby and they ran into eachother, the ball hit the ground the runner jumped over them and got the winning run :(

I feel like crap.......and we didn't even win.

So we finish our 18 game season with 1 won and 17 lost :D

If you get sick, then you can miss work -- presuming you have a job with sick days and all. This might not be good if you love your job and it isn't ethical.

I suggest a long soak in a nice tub bath.

It's the last game of the season, I'd go.

1. I'd take my own shade - an umbrella of some sort.

2. I'd slather on sunscreen.

3. I'd make sure I had plenty of water and gatorade (replenish electrolytes)

4. I'd take a chair in case there are no bleachers, if there were bleachers, I'd sit close to an exit so I could make a quick escape if I had to.

5. I'd take an ice chest filled with ice and the aforementioned water and gatorade and a small damp towel which I would use to cool myself down at intervals. (applying it to the wrists and the back of the neck is a good way to forestall heat stress).

6. I'd wear a wide-brimmed straw hat - ventilated so there would be air circulating around my head, but shady so I would be protected from the sun.

7. I would not wear anything sleeveless, but I would wear light-colored cotton so that my perspiration could evaporate and provide cooling.

8. I would get one of those little, battery-driven fans and extra batteries.

But I would go.
