Paradise of the cavy...

My guinea-pig Fudge recently became mostly paralysed in her back legs(which are now pretty much dragged along), a google search found the possibility that the muscles weren't working due to a calcium deficiency, and some doses of Osteocare would recover moblility in a few days. When extra calcium didn't have any noticeable improvement we took her to the vets, who said her back legs were very weak, and that if it didn't recover it could be a degenerative disease which would require necessary mercy :( . She's been given a steroid injection to see how that works (hopefully), but the whole thing made me think how I could make the cavy's life absolute bliss in case of the worst, so what would you do to make a Guinea-pig's (or any other pet's) paradise? Both serious and non-serious suggestions welcome (I could do with some cheering up)

I don't know about guinea pigs, but when my hedgehog was on his way out we bought a really giant bag of mealworms and let him eat until he was so fat that he couldn't retract his spines any more.

I can see that, and that just brightened my bleak day. :)

I would do the same with guinea pig stuff. Let him/her pig out, play until exhaustion, the works.

Good Luck. I know you'll be fine. :fluffle:

take it out for a night on the tiles. works for me anyway. or buy it tonnes of guinea pig accessories that it doesn't need if it's materialistic. or take it to a buddhist retreat with spa and massage facilities if it thinks it's not.
