Grr... I hate whiners

So, I just saw on CTV a news story about evacuees from Beirut whining about the poor conditions they had to suffer on the ships that were sent to ferry them out of Lebanon.

No A/C, people getting sick, etc...
Well, gee, sorry we didn't send the LUXURY CRUISE SHIPS to pick you people up! We thought you'd want out ASAP, seeing as how where you were was a war zone... maybe we were wrong! Maybe we should have LEFT THEM THERE. Seriously. People don't appreciate anything. If only there was a way to screen for people who needlessly complain. Then they could have left them in Lebanon... at least then they'd have something legitimate to complain about.

I don't know, being taken back to American soil does seem pretty harsh.

If it ain't good enough for the American flag to touch why should American people be forced to touch it?

Because they havn't invented levitation devices.

Can we keep the whiners from touching it in the same manner?

wouldn't this post make you a whiner about whiners?

self-loathing isn't healthy

nevermind someone beat me to it.

Well... I fail to see what's wrong if people complain about getting sick. You expect them to rejoice? And yes, they will complain if its hot...

Were they given water? Etc...

Were they asked how they liked the conditions on the ship? I mean, did they get together and set up a printing press and start distributing pamphlets about how they were feeling on the ship?

I'd complain too. I probably wouldn't stop. "I was in a war zone!! I'm on a ship now!! It's hot!! This sucks!! Gimme water!! Fuck!!! Oh and thanks."

We're so spoiled by easy living that there is no stoicism anymore... Very sad.

I complained about the airconditioning breaking down on a train I took to Berlin last year. I suppose I had a right to whine because although it wasn't as bad as being on a ship stuffed with people during this heat wave, I didn't have too much reason to be grateful for leaving where I was. The nerve of those people.

You also paid for that train ticket. AFAIK, nobody's being charged for these evacs. They're getting a free ride. It's like a starving man complaining that the free sandwhich he just got handed has no pickles.

Why isn't anyone pointing out that the thread starter has put "people being sick" as part of the general gripe against the whiners?

I took that to mean sea sick (awww... welcome to the high seas, Mrs. Rich Expat). I guess it would truly bother me if someone had appendicitis or other acute life threatening conditions.

But sea sickness... please.

Yeah, they were complaining about vomitting. So, sea sickness.
And I'm not whining about whiners :p I'm just pointing out that they're aggravating. The fact that our people are so spoiled that they can't appreciate a helping hand is sad.

As far as I understand it the evacs are being paid for by the US population as a whole? And as such it is in the best interests of the entire US population for these people to complain if the services fall short.

EDIT: Whoops. Or possibly Canadian.

You consider living in a dangerous and unpredictable warzone to be being spoiled?

If hanging from poles is good enough for the flags it should be good enough for the people.

I know, I heard these people's complaints on the CBC. My first reaction was, "you've gone to a volatile area, so what do you expect". I mean, it is not exactly easy to get people out of a war zone. Indeed, I think these people are lucky that the Canadian government are willing to attempt to get them out.

Yeah, but if someone ASKS "How were the conditions on the ship?" what are they SUPPOSED to say?? "Wow! We were crammed in like sardines, it was way too hot, many of us got sick, in fact, we felt like Chinese refugees being shipped over to become sex slaves! Whoopie! I hope we can do it again on our next vacation!"

The fact of the matter is, the conditions were not ideal. I don't think, however, that any of the folks who were evacuated are saying that they don't appreciate the fact that they are out of the war zone, merely that the trip itself was NOT a pleasure cruise. Which is simply the truth.

No no, he's not whining, he's bitching about the matter. A slight but important difference.

It is very easy to be in a difficult position and take any way out and then, upon reflection, see that the way out could have been better. So what, don't whine, you got out of a situation that wasn't just difficult for you, but also for those trying to get you out. Tell me even why a state should even attempt to get its citizens out? What obligations does it have?

That's not universally true...

Paid for by US Taxdollars but they do not have to fork out money to flee Lebanon.

DOn't know about Canadians though. Do they have to pay? I really hate when people complain. They are even complaining that we aren't moving fast enough. Well jee wiz. This caught everyone with their pants down and all nations struggled at first.
