If there is a band that you don't see here, vote for other, post what you think, but don't bitch about please. I can only fiit ten options in, so some bands will be left out.

Anyhow, I vote for Pink Floyd!

As far as strictly prog bands go I would probably have to Van Der Graaf Generator. Focus would be pretty high on the list too, if not for the amount of interminable pointless twaddle they always seemed to feel inclined to fill their records with - a very patchy band at best. Hawkwind also deserve a mention, but really theor ambit has always been wider than just prog.

Is Tool included in this, or aren't they considered traditionally "prog"?

i have to go with pink floyd, though i do have a particular liking of the flaming lips, kraftwerk, roxy music, radiohead along with with various other ones... and let's not forget the beatles. i also heart procul harum(i don't know much about them but i just loooove a whiter shade of pale)

Yes have made some of the worst songs ever in existance. But they have also made some of the best. This amazes me which is why i voted for Yes.

Starship Trooper baby. :D Love that song. My personal favorite Steve Howe solo.

Shadow Gallery, baby!

And Threshold is right up there too.

I'm voting Rush. This decision wasn't based on musical ability or technical skill, rather it's based on sheer longevity, the energy and quality of live performances, and fan loyalty. And it is voting for your *favorite* here, so I did just that. :p

I like Rush slightly more than King Crimson, so I picked Rush.

I understand you're limited to ten options, but you did select only very mainstream prog bands. You didn't delve into anything quite so progressive as Magma or National Health.

Queensryche.

Their early stuff. Not the new stuff (although OM:2 isn't as bad as it's made out to be).

That's the cool thing about Prog. The worst prog rock is worse than any other music in the world. There's just so much that can go wrong.

Incidentally, I selected King Crimson, due such excellent tunes as Three of a Perfect Pair and Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Part II.

The poll says prog "rock", so I guess not. Tool = (prog) metal.

I'm going to go for Pure Reason Revolution, partially because I'm listening to them right now, and partially because they're cool live. But mainly because the music is great. I just hope they don't become full of themselves as far too many prog bands did (Emerson, Lake & Palmer, anyone?).

I voted for Pink Floyd because I’ve never heard of any of the others, and I like The Wall.

Didn't prog disappear up its own arse?

My question is this like Progressive in the political sense, in which case I’d have to say that sounds pretty lame. If good music is good music then it’s good music. I mean seriously, politics don’t need to be included in every facet of your life. Live a little.

And if that isn’t what it means, then I’m a fucking idiot.

For me it would have to be Yes, Rush, and Gentle Giant. Acquiring the Taste, mmmm...

And maybe Alan Parson's Project.

I would have voted for The Moody Blues.

Then Pink Floyd.

Then Genesis.

YOU MADE ME CHOOSE! :p

Rush, because they're my absolute favourite band ever. Period.

However, I listen to most of the bands on this list (and many no on this list) regularially.

Some excellent bands not on the list:
Van der Graff Generator
Gentle Giant
Marillion
Spock's Beard

That's all I can think of right now >.<
