Some of those sites can be slightly dangerous. Most people are pretty honest with their age and/or looks but there is bound to be a few (or more) people whose intentions are not always pure.

Wait.. Us teens hardly have 'pure' intentions either, heh.

Statistics say that 4/5 posters on internet forums are either child molestors or Canadian.

Be careful... Recognize the code words. If someone says they are a brunette, they are really a pedophile.

And -1/5 is Canadian.

And remember, if they have acid for blood, they are most likely a homosexual.

Damn teen sites. Every time I go looking for new frontiers in porn I get redirected to some teen site. As if.

I like my women older.

And most likely seek to turn you into food for their children.

be careful. Don't give personal information. Most people are decent, I think, but its impossible to tell the indecent one hiding among all the cool people. Don't trust anyone on the site with any information that you wouldn't give a stranger on the street. Doesnt matter how long u've talked to them, can't be sure they are who they claim

Just be smart. Don't give out identifying information, like where you live, what your real name is, where you go to school etc etc. Don't give out your picture. Imagine that everyone who speaks to you is lying about their age/gender/location/intentions...you don't need to believe everyone is lying, but consider the possibility.

Whenever I see the term "Child Predators" I always visualize a small pack of voracious toddlers closing in for the kill.

I'd have to say the large preportion of bad guys are on dating sites of any type and other social networking types. The amount on sites like this and, say Neopets is very small. Neopets just has kids and teens that don't play nice. As long as you stay of social networking sites and chat and dating, etc., you should be fine.

the WORLD is full of child predators.

the difference is that online they cant hurt you. you have to make the mistake of meeting one in real life (or giving them enough info to track you down)

most child predators are pretty upfront about it. they cant pass as teens so they dont even try. they wait for the kid who in attracted to the idea of an older person and hone in on him/her. as with any other sexaul offer online, if you firmly reject them, they mostly go away. there are so many other kids to go after who WILL respond to them.

occasionally you get involved with one of the rare nutcases who make you very glad you followed standard advice and didnt post enough info for them to stalk you in real life. you will still have to drop your myspace account, change your text messaging IDs, put them on ignore and/or report them to authorities but at least they cant show up at your home and try to rape/kill you.

if you follow reasonable precautions--limit personal information and when you decide its time to meet your online friend in real life, only meet them in a very public place for the first time (restaurant, cafe, the mall) --you dont have to worry much about the online predators any more than you worry about them in real life.
