As various states and governments aare trying to crack down on cellphone use while driving, motorcycle helmet makers are working to put Bluetooth enabled microphones and speakers into helmets so that they can link up with a mobile phone.
What the fuck? Why is this development even being allowed to go on when it is being repeatedly proven talking on the phone while driving is at least as dangerous as driving while drunk and is being cracked down on by various state lawmakers? Maybe they should just put beer taps in the helmet, it's ok - it's not a car.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but I believe it's holding a cellphone while driving that is statistically dangerous, not hands free sets, which are in essence no different to talking to a passenger in the car.

It's not the talking that's the problem, it's the hands on the wheel, not paying attention to the road while you're dialing a phone number that's a problem.
Otherwise, they'd legislate all vehicles to be single-occupant to avoid distracting communication.
And I was promised some Chewbaca. Where's my Chewie?

Well, that makes remotely more sense. But really, you are still riding on a speeding hunk of metal at 70mph. Driving a motorcycle is inherently more dangerous to its rider than driving a car is to its passengers.
Why do you need to talk to people on the phone?

Why do you need to talk to people on the phone? It's a lot safer than transporting children with a habit of throwing stuffed animals up front to the driver seat, but have fun trying to get that illegalized. ;)

That's not very safe for other people on the road, or sidewalk. :P

I got a ticket one time, but that was bogus. It turns out they were pulling over everyone driving down that particular sidewalk. That's profiling. And profiling is wrong.

hmmmm why is it ALLOWED?
maybe because the government doesnt control the development of new products?
maybe because trying to make something illegal isnt the same thing as it being illegal?
driving while talking on a phone is legal in many many places in the united states, probably in most places. does it make sense to have the government disallow development of legal devices that are legal to use? when did we get a government like that and why would we want one?
