A man I know, Mr Payne, recently became a father of baby boy. Mr. Payne together with his wife chose a name for their newly-arrived pride and joy: Max.
So the baby's full name is now, you guessed it: Max Payne (no middle name).
For those of you who don't know why you don't want to name your son Max Payne. Here's a link to a wiki article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Payne
In short, Max Payne is a tragic video game character. Basically Max (an undercover policeman) in the course of the game go on a bloody one-man rampage to avenge the death of his wife and daughter, all in a gritty film-noir environment.
Should I tell Mr. Payne of his unfortunate naming? Hopefully before Max starts getting aspirations about becoming a policeman?
P.S. The parents in all likelihood never heard of the video game!

Maybe he's a fan of the video game and did it on purpose?
I think it'd be cool to be named after something.

So what, not everyone is that much into gaming. I at first thought of a movie, but that one's called "Major Payne". :) Now that's a person you don't want your kid called after!
Should I tell Mr. Payne of his unfortunate naming? Hopefully before Max starts getting aspirations about becoming a policeman?Would it even still be an issue in 10 years, let alone 20?

Max, dearest of all my friends...
They'll find out when the movie is released anyway.
;)
Well, that was fun... in a fuckin' terrible, sick, not-at-all-fun kinda way.
I just hope the kid never has one of those weird dream sequences...that shit was creepy, not to mention irritating.
Only in passing not in 'oh my gawd, this is such a huge issue!' way. There a lots of people with the same names as movie characters and cartoons and there lives havent suffered any for it. Its not a big deal, its a minor irritation/laugh perhaps but then not

he probably heard the name in a commercial, and it stuck. just bring it up in friendly conversation... you might find that he knows about the game and liked the name.
