Yell back, "WHAT!?"
Or something real loud and angrily, maybe scare them off?

Well, there are three logical explanations:

1. Someone really is calling you
2. It's a ghost/demon/supernatural entity
3. You're going insane

Well, if it suddenly gets cold or you feel a presence, it's probably supernatural. Do you have the lights on?

If it persists, keep yelling. Then throw something. If all else fails, I don't know what to do. Personally, I'd be pretty creeped out.

Don't forget stress.

Sometimes it happens to me, but only just as I'm drifting off to sleep.

The mind is a funny thing.

This happened to a friend of mine. They found him the next day ripped to shreds with a grimace of extreme horror on his frozen dead face.

I'd say it's from lack of sleep in that case. Then again, I've been up late and worn out but never had any kind of auditory hallucinations...it probably depends on how tired you are.

do you use illicit drugs?

drug use + lack of sleep is enough to push your mind into a weird place, the lack of sleep alone might never be enough unless you are very deprived.

Or not.

There is a thing called night paralysis that is often confused for a supernatural attack. This is probably not night paralysis, but it is, most likely, something subconscious.

Like I said - the mind is a funny thing. Your own imagination can do you more harm than all the people and "ghosts" that ever existed or didn't exist.

They don't even have to be illicit. Many common cold remedies can produce the same effect.

Yes, the "old hag" syndrome. It can be a very frightening experience because you're trapped between sleep and consciousness; the subconscious responds to the sensation of paralysis and fills it with what we fear because of the nature of the situation. That's probably why people never hallucinate angels or hear music by Mozart when they have SP but rather frightening images and voices...

I don't. However, I've had some pretty weird dreams and hallucinations if I'm sick and have taken some medicine to help me sleep (eg NyQuil).

How about delusional siblings. My sister once recorded her calling out my name on a cassette and set it to replay constantly one time when I was home alone. I didn't fall for it for long, but it was an odd thing initially.

Usually, the supernatural produces the voices which lead to the insanity. Either that, or the insanity produces the voices that one assumes to be the supernatural.

I guess it's one of the risks of looking in to the paranormal; there's always that chance you'll look too far and whatever you find will not like you looking...

Are you in a house or an apartment?

An AC system can carry any sounds or vibrations from points along the ducts and possibly distort them, creating what sound like voices. For example, a radio in another room or outside could carry along the AC ducts and sound like someone screaming; it could even be the air conditioner itself.

Either that, or there's something seriously weird going on. For that matter, are you alone?

very good point! and, yes, im alone.

very good point! and, yes, im alone.

Well, next time you hear it you should see where it's coming from; if it's coming from an AC vent, it will (obviously) be near the floor and have an almost tinny sound to it in addition to the actual voice from the metal ducts.

If you're alone that rules out the possibility of someone else doing it inside.

I once hallucinated that I was playing a video game right before I fell I asleep, then I realise I couldn't move and felt like I was laying down. When I tried to move the world fell away like a mosaic and I was in my bed with my hand reaching up toward the ceiling. I got a bit of an impression the the person I was playing with wasn't human...

I have days when that happens...I used to work on a bar and it would get really busy...and that would be the worst time. Mostly P I'd hear, and I'd be looking around like a spanner.
