its not that new - my very conservative history teacher in H.S. (15 years ago) used to get really riled up about racism and he had told us more than once that "oriental" is not a race and to call any asian that was ignorant if not racist.

I think it makes sense as not all asians are from the orient.

That one is new to me.

I've never heard anyone actually say "Oriental". In fact, the only time I've even heard anyone say the word "Orient" in conversation was a friend in Switzerland referring to the "Moyen Orient" or "Middle East".

Oriental just seems extremely archaic.

This teacher also lectured me on how "No way Jose" is actually a phrase of racial hatred, and attempted to prove it by asking two guys named Jose in my class about how they would feel if someone said it to them- to which they responded that they really didn't care. She then countered this revelation by calling me a racist. Ah, logic (or the lack thereof).
