SAINT PETERSBURG (AFX) - US President George W. Bush, caught on an open microphone, said that a key to defusing the Middle East crisis was for 'Hezbollah to stop doing this shit'.

Talking to British Prime Minister Tony Blair at a working lunch at the G8 summit, Bush also hinted that US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice would take a bigger role in the crisis, and appeared to express frustration about UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.

'I think Condi's going to go pretty soon,' the US president said, leaving Rice's destination unclear, though she is widely expected to travel to the region after a UN fact-finding team returns.

Later, Bush added that 'the irony is, what they need to do is get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this shit, and it's over,' though he does not specify who 'they' are.

And he appeared to express frustration about Annan, saying 'I felt like telling Kofi to get on the phone with Assad, make something happen.'

The recording picked up as Bush, apparently expected to make remarks, declared: 'I'm just going to make it up. I'm not going to talk too damn long like the rest of them. Some of these guys talk too long.'

If true it shows he has a brain in his head...because all the UN has to do is buckle down on Syria and Iran and the hizbolla and hamas puppets will stop their shit .

And THEN it might make sense to tell Israel to calm dowwn ....until then Israel gets to do the world a favor and kill as many Hammas and Hizbolla as they can .

It's actually the best bit of speaking I've ever heard Bush do. It makes sense, it's honest and shows an actual intelligence. If he spoke more like this in speeches rather than those retarded "U.S.=TeH win" things he frequently gives, I'm sure he'd be a lot more popular.

You can't imagine how sorry I am to say it, but so do I. Time to grow up, boys and girls in Hezbollah and Hamas. Every time you do this, the Israelis bomb your pants off. And perhaps it's time to notice that no matter how many of your people blow themselves up, no matter how many missiles you lob over the border, Israel is still there. You're like a compulsive gambler, expecting to win it big on the next throw of the dice. "One more rocket, just one, and all the Jews will pack up and leave." Ain't gonna happen, so maybe it's time to suck it up and see what kind of arrangements can be made for the betterment of your people. Or wouldn't that work out with you plans for being important and powerful, having your people living a better life?

That being said, the Israelis aren't angels, either, and Bush is ... well, Bush. Frankly, just about every world "leader" I can think of is an ass and a fool and a prating coxcomb. :upyours:

hamas and hezbollah know that. they arent stupid. but they are to some extent puppets of syria and iran. if syria and iran want them to harrass israel, they will do so until they are told to stop. if they dont do as they are told, syria and iran wont fund them anymore. they will find some other group who will follow orders.

as dedicated militant radicals, they are willing to give their lives and the lives of lebanese civilians for their cause. this latest action is probably bringing in many new recruits to replace the few members who will be killed. it also greatly increases their prestige in the terrorist boys club. they are the men of the hour not wimps who talk but never do anything.

this is a big WIN for hezbollah and hamas. the part where they cant possibly hurt israel in a meaningful way is irrelevant.

Sadly, you're right. I shouldn't look at threads like this early on a Monday, I'm far too grumpy. Maybe we should carpet bomb everything from Gaza to Beirut and send in the Army Corps of Engineers to pave it. Then maybe we'll get some peace and quiet. Nah, that probably wouldn't work, either.

I've always thought that Bush suffered from both poor formal speaking skills and bad speech writers. He doesn't sound nearly as strained and mealy-mouthed the few times we see him speak from the hip - like during the town-hall style debate with John Kerry (debate #2 I believe). He's not stupid, he's just very unpolished and he appears uncomfortable when speaking formally.

Maybe he'd do better if he started to skip the prepared speeches more of the time. Of course, depending on the issue, I wouldn't want him to do better.

I think it's very interesting to hear these two very influential people talking with each other without any kind of interference (no media, no written speeches, no advisors etc.)

You hear from their speeches that they've spoken to each other, but you wonder just what it's like when they do - this gives us a rare and valuable insight.

Well, I'll be very disappointed with the moral majority if they fail to condemn this with the same vigour that we saw in the debacle over Janet Jackson's impromptu Super Bowl display. Seems to me that Israel is not denying calls for a cease-fire for they have set their conditions for a cease-fire. Question is, does Hezbollah want a cease-fire? The answer seems to be no they don't.

Israel has already stated that they would stop the attacks in Gaza when their soldier is handed back to them. Samething they told to Lebanon on top of moving Lebanonese troops into South Lebanon to the border to keep Hezbollah from firing rockets into Israel.

Oops. I guess that debunks Israel denying calls for a cease-fire.
