I'm just wondering who all here surfs and where they've been. I just got out of the water after rippin some little 4 footers, and I'm curious. I've surfed mostly east coast, so I rarely get overhead unless we have a hurricane or large storm. 2 years ago I got to hit 14 foot crests at Ocean Isle in North Carolina. I've also surfed Costa Rica a little bit on the Pacific side, thanks to my girls dad havin 2 beachhouses in hacienda. So, any other surfers out there that use a computer for more than porn?

I want to learn. Sadly, the beaches in my state blow as far as waves go. Actually, come to think of it...they pretty much blow all around.
I plan to move to Australia for a few years and maybe I can learn down there...
I do snowboard tho. And they're atleast a little tiny bit similar.

I surf but not as much as used to. :( Back when I lived in SoCal, I surfed like mad. But now live in a town in VA that's a 2-3 hour drive from the beach. That and the only good surf in this state is at Assateague (SP?) Island, and that's in the winter. I stick to my skateboard now more than ever these days...

East Coast surfing sucks simply because there are no waves half the time. It's more fun to go just before a storm...ow. Go to the West. The Continental Shelf is closer to the beach and thus the waves are naturally bigger. Yay.

Yes, for those of us who can afford to go skipping of to California for fun. Which generally doesn't include dedicated surfers, who show their dedication by either being pros, or just bums. Along with housekeeping and fast food jobs.

I'm no surfer, but I've been to Ocean Isle during a storm, and while it was still out at sea, and saw some very large waves. Very pleasant, although it was nicer before it got as built up as it is now.

Yeah, the only time I really find waves that compare to those back on the west coast is down at Nagshead, North Carolina just before a storm. You can get some pretty decent sets down there, but half the time a maverick will come outta nowhere and knock the shit out of you. But the sets can be pretty sick.

I don't surf, but there's some good surfing out here.. I've seen 12-foot waves at the Trestles, just south of San Clemente. Best beach in the world in my opinion.. unless you're looking for restaurants and noise.

Nah, the best beaches for surfin that I've seen are in Hawaii. Oahu and Maui are sick. I've hit 20 footers there. It's awesome, the waves are perfect. The only problem is that a lot of beaches have big ass rocks beneath the water. I ended up with a dislocated shoulder and two broken ribs after one jacked up wipe out.

lol, similar story here with a jetty that was covered by water during a storm. Bad wipeout, hit the rocks, barely made it to shore. *Shivers*
At least I don't have to worry about those West Coast sharks.:(

Rocks can be a problem at a lot of local beaches here too.. mostly small, jagged algae-covered ones that are easy to slip on. I still like the atmosphere where I go though, even better than the places I've been to in Hawaii, although I'm sure the waves are a bit smaller here on most days.

Aw man, sharks still scare the shit out of me. I remember back in SoCal, sometimes we'd hit the waves in the winter. The waves are massive and despite the cold water, it's totally worth it. But the sharks are out like mad. I don't exactly know why, but I've heard it's because of the seals or some shit. Never really paid much attention to that... Anyway, sometimes when we hit the beach, you could see one or two sharks swimmin around near the shore. It took quite a few beers before I'd actually go into the water, but man...

Ah, close enough.

Well..its not too late to start, I suggest going to Huntington Beach, Orange County to learn how to surf, its a great beach.

Florida beaches tend to suck when it comes to waves...unless you venture into Northern Central Florida or North Florida which is the polar opposite of civilization. I swear its like we live in two different states.

You ever been down to South Florida? What do you think? Not the boonies, it's the Orlando burbs, about 10 minutes from it. Daytona isn't really like where I am but yea, it is another world over there. I could never stomach going over to Pensacola though, ugh. I go to South Florida every now and then, last time I was in Palm Beach which was a little strange. I ended up going to Miami and then the Keys but not for too long. I go to Miami more than anything, if I head in that direction. That definetely is a different world.

Yes, that mixed in with several countries. There are a ton of New Yorkers, Massachusetts...ers?,whatever, New Englanders in Tampa and Orlando too.

When you get to Lake County and above, that's pretty country. I prefer the Jax side to the Pensacola side though, because I guess I like Georgia more than Alabama.

And are surfer dudes generally on the attractive side or on the, "ewww bum" side?:p

NEVER ask a woman that question! Surfers fall on the attractive side, always, because we have some extra points going to us. First, we're in shape. Second, we have good drugs. The best around, usually. Third, we have great tans. Fourth, we are dedicated to something, which is better than a lot of men. Granted, it's not a woman, but if you teach her to surf, then she'll share your dedication and can't complain about it. Fifth, we can teach them to surf. This alone scores more points than any approach I've ever used. Now, you may disagree, but watch the next time you go to a beach where there are GOOD surfers. The women always check out the surfers. If you are good, they ALWAYS say something.

By the way, Florida has shitty breaks. You need to go further north or south.

And Huntington Beach is too crowded usually, in my experience. I prefer something slightly out of the way, and I'll sacrifice a foot if it buys me an empty beach, by which I mean no more than 2 surfers per access.
