I'm not quite sure what you're getting at here. Both have market mechanisms and currency, although I certainly wouldn't classify Stalinism as capitalism. It's a command economy controlled by the State, therefore there is no private investment (or capital) into business; an essential element of capitalism.
And 'socialism' has a variety of meanings in this day and age. To some, it simply means living in a capitalist society heavily monitored and influenced by the state. Perhaps this is what you mean?
