Ok, I've got this cold. Not too bad, just bad enough to be really irritating. Sore throat and stuffy nose for the most part. Any remedies?

But hey, that's not all. In addition to that, I managed to get a real nice little sunburn on my back yesterday. So if anyone knows how to get rid of that fast, please let me know.

1. Hot tea, preferably with Honey and Lemon....and copious amounts of it.
It will break up the crap in your head, and its good for a sore throat, if you have one.

2. Aloe.
Cheaply bought....store in Refridgerator ...use liberally.
Nice cold aloe on a sunburn is a wonderful treatment.

Strong lemon juice, mix with lots of honey, and add a shot or two of good whiskey. This is my grandmother's remedy. Worst thing that can happen is that you will still be sick, but you just won't care...

Hot whiskey, lemon and cloves. Traditional Irish remedy, yes. But I just can't bring myself to take that, not on a hot summer's day...

Couple drops of cinnamon oil, dabbed under each nostril. For throat, hot salty water ... gargle and spit (don't swallow it).

No cure, mind you, but it will ease things up a bit.

Don't use the medicated sprays for the nose or throat ... might cause chemical rhinitis with rebound block.

Also, if you can stand it, ginger tea.

sore throat: boil some water and put about 5 cm in a cup with some salt.. let it cool and gargle.. it tastes horrible but it works. Coke is a good one too. Eucalyptus, if you have any, or vix on the nose should help.

Sunburn - aloe vera, and lots of cool things.. i tend to wet a tea towel and either put in the freezer for a minute and put it on my back, and just keep doing it to take the heat out.

I second the cinnamin (sp?) and salt water gargle for the cold.

As far as the sunburn, if the aloe doesn't work (and sometimes it won't) put wet tea bags on the burn.

On top of some tea and chicken soup, I always overdose on vitamin C. Seems to reduce the severity and duration.

Use aloe for the sunburn. We always have some growing in a pot because it reduces the pain from any kind of burns.

Olbas Oil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olbas_oil) - great stuff.

I had a German friend who used to drink that stuff when he had a cold. I wouldn't recommend it personally but he saaid it worked *shrug*.

I always go with hot ribena with honey.

Erm... Oblas oil is for inhaling, not drinking - some of the ingredients are slightly toxic in the quantities you would get from drinking it. You can however get Olbas pastelles which don't have those ingredients and are safe to eat (although they taste rather unusual).

The aloe did work... the only problem now is that part of the sunburn's on my back where I can't reach it. And I can't think of a way to put teabags there, either :( But I guess it'll go away eventually anyway.

As for the cold, I'm going with vitamin C now. Let's see if it helps.

Get a bottle of whiskey or burbon. Get in bed and drink from the bottle until you can no longer see your feet clearly. Put the bottle down and go to sleep. When you wake up you won't give a damn about your cold or sunburn. :D

For the sunburn, take old wet teabags and apply them like a poultice. It takes the sting right out. Or take a bath in tepid water mixed with baking soda.

For the cold, I like screwdrivers. Vodka to make you not care and orange juice for the vitamin C.

for the cold, Orange Juice and Captain Morgan's. Not only do you get the Vitamen C, but the alcohol in the captain's helps dull the sore throat.

for the sunburn- take an cool oatmeal bath. (Draw a cool/lukewarm bath, add about two cups of oatmeal, and soak)...takes the sting out.

Well, try some Grape Extract. I got mine from David's Natural Market and it is a little brown bottle with a dropper and it says Oregon Grape. Supposed to eradicate AND prevent colds. I got it and it didn't work for me, but then I found out that I didn't actually have a COLD for the better part of a year, it was sinusitis. So I still don't know if it would work for a cold but I hear good things.

As for the sunburn, do aloe.

Hey, thanks for bumping this thread into my field of vision, Harlesburg.

I acquired a rather evil sunburn on my left arm yesterday, plus a couple of areas of lesser evilness. Had sliced cucumber on my arm throughout the night (wrapped with kitchen towels, very stylish) because I only got home at midnight and don't have anything else at home.

I was going to buy some Quark (German thing, kinda like thick yogurt) and buttermilk and put that on, it's supposed to cool and heal.

Hmm, maybe I'll go and buy some aloe gel instead. Less messy.

This may be somewhat obvious, but have you tried aftersun?! Or any other intense moisturiser for that matter. Cold wet towel across the area also good.

I know you said your cold was gone, but I just thought I would contribute: I have a friend who swears by cheap red wine, a whole bottle. Personally I use eucalyptus for the congestion and curl up under several thick duvets to sweat it out.

Soluble aspirin. gargle it a bit, its a really good anti inflamatory. used it when i had glandular fever. doc waited till i lost a stone then mentioned that this cheap over the counter stuff would enable me to swallow again. tastes awful but it really works.

If you can't reach parts of your back with aloe, place some like, on a rag on a stick or something. Be inventive.

For the cold:

CHICKEN. NOODLE. SOUP.

That is all.
