Some people are just natutrally cooler than others.
These people never have to be wearing the most fashionable thing they can find, or have the top-selling record, or Hollywood movie.
But nevertheless, whenever you see them, they ALWAYS seem incredibly "cool".

Some people who OOOZE cool.

Morgan Freeman.
Lemmy Kilminster.
Liam Neeson.

Meh ... an actress with bulimia is so blase ... but I'd hold her hair for her while she purged. Then I'd make her eat again just to watch her purge again so I could make her eat again.

Now *that* would be cool.

I considered Ozzy, I really did.

<-----Huge Black Sabbath fan, ya see...

However, what with seeing the Ozzman dottering so rapidly, and the use of "Ghost Singers"....and the fact that my dear Wizard of Ozz may have once been all that and more, I just feel hes a little to old to be going about calling himself "The Prince of Darkness."

Thus, while very cool, even as of recently...
Ozzy doesnt EXUDE cool like say his good friend Lemmy Kilminster of Motorhead does.

Jazz musicians are, of course, the coolest people on the planet. But watch something like A Great Day in Harlem, about a meeting of dozens of jazz musicians for a photograph-when Thelonious Monk shows up everyone murmurs, making Monk the coolest cat of the coolest cat on the planet. So cool the Fonz looks like Ralph Mouth.

And I'll echo William S. Burroughs mentioned by someone else earlier. Because.

yes, morgan freeman appears to be the coolest man on earth. but he is an actor and that may only be his public persona. in his everyday life he may be painfully shy or painfully dickish. there is no way to know.

Well, Steve McQueen is the cliche answer, but I can't think of anyone outdoing McQueen.. I can't imagine Brad Pitt doing his own stunts on a movie like McQueen did many times. Movie stars nowadays have that shiny blow-dried look anyway.. stars like McQueen looked like someone you could walk into at a bar or someplace.

Others from that era:

Warren Oates
Paul Newman
Lee Marvin
Clint (already mentioned)
William Holden (sometimes)
Robert Mitchum

No, I'm perfectly happy to admit it, and not on an elitist pedestal (after all, you have no idea who I am, do you? I could BE one of these people for all you know, eh?).

But I AM sick of the hero worship cult that has created a society that doesn't really make much that is new or meaningful anymore. Everyone wants to be like the cool actors they see on screen, and be in the cool movies that have already been made half a million times, and a large number of them are not saying anything significant, meaningful, or new, and the public gobbles up the tripe and knows little to nothing about the substance. We worship people we don't even know because of the face they put on on screen, many of which--even most of which--got there because they had an angle, a lot of money, the hottest body in their acting class, or a slimy agent, not because they are excellent artists. And every single one of the people mentioned so far has done something because they knew it would make them money, not because it moved their artistic soul. Sellout. I'd like to see some of these folks actually go back to live theater and say something with their art. They could do it if they wanted to...

In other words, why talk about famous people that ooze cool? There are far more non-famous people who ALSO* ooze cool, and who people should broaden their minds to know better. That's all.

Sheesh... defensive.

And just how do you claim to know that? What, you've interviewed everyone mentioned here and determined that money was their sole motivation? I swear, the word "sellout" IMMEDIATELY identifies some wannabe culture snob who at one time liked the "sellout" in question, and when they do something that garners commercial success, suddenly, as if by magic, they're no longer any good.

All artists go through phases, son. One of them is sometimes popularity. Hell, a prime example is Queen Latifah. She raps to make money but is actually a phenomenal jazz singer. Is that selling out? If it is, it allows her to pursue her true passion, and I say good for her.

People like you who cry "sellout" really have no idea what you're talking about.
