What are they planning to do? Move the Lebanonese Army to South Lebanon and take it over from Hezbollah.

Hopefully this happens. Then Israel can stop blasting enemy locations and return the planes back to the hanger.

They could very well stop it now.

Ha, Id like see how long the Lebanese government would stay in power if they help the aggressors of their nation against the resistance. Wouldnt be smart on their end.

I'd respect them allot more if they did.

And I doubt Hezbollah can run a Civil War AND fight Israel.

If the Civil War starts Israel would just wipe out the Hezbollah opposition as soon as they tried to do something against the Lebanon government.

But, would Israel actually give their neighbours a chance? I doubt it; they're a little too trigger happy...

Yeah, they’ll probably just wipe out the Lebanese army.

As soon as they have wiped out Hezbollah, they have pretty much done just that..
Sad fact is that it is probably the closest thing Lebanon has to a army these days..

Well, the PM's only got two choices. He can either watch Israel destroy his country, or destroy it himself. Because fighting Hezbollah, regardless of military concerns, will rip the place apart once again.

And it had looked so bright for the people there. :(

Resistence to what since Lebanon is not even occupied. There is no need for Hezbollah now that Israel is no longer in the nation.

Actually, I think Israel will let them.

If they had done this after the Syrians left, this current conflict would be nonexistent. I'm sure it's a futile attempt to get the Israelis to bargain, rather than bomb.

Agreed 100%

If Lebanon starts to take over Southern Lebanon, they'll have air support :D

No sane government that depends significantly on popular support would ever attempt to destroy a major armed political faction like that, especially one that enjoys a great deal of support among the country's largest demographic.

Israel's rhetoric urging them to do so will accomplish nothing.

Hezbollah would rape Lebanon in the ass the moment it gives a whine. The only option the Lebanese army has in a conflict with Hezbollah is do like the French: surrender.

When?
After the Hariri assassination, when the Syrians left and Lebanon democratically elected a government that was on the way to creating a stable and open country, where religion had its place and that place was not in government.

Yeah, cause after all, sitting and watching a terrorist group launch missles into your border for six YEARS before finally saying fuck all and doing something about it is trigger happy.

As someone said, it is completely futile to think the Lebanese Government will be able to do anything to Hizballah, those guys are a state within a state. For the Lebanese government to do anything against Hizballah would to be risking a civil war. And curiously, now they get bombed by Israel for not doing just that.

Some people are just screwed :D

^And why, pray tell, does that bring a smile to your face? Most of the people there did nothing to deserve this..Would you like it if someone you never knew was gloating at your situation if you were in their place?

I'm a sociopath.

So, any bets on who will have more kills (as in civilian kills) by the end of the week?

I bet Israel wins by a 7 to 1 margin!

edit: damn, i gotta support hizbollah, Israel is wining by more than 10 civvies to one!

No comment. I'm praying that Israel shows enough restraint not to bomb Lebanon back into the stone age..Or, at least, when they are done defeating Hezbollah, help the Lebanese rebuild their country..

a) Technically, it's not bombing Lebanon into the stone age, just 20 years back in time: click here (http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/07/12/mideast/)

b) You get a cookie for being so good for thinking that israel actually cares for lebanon :)

Mate, I seriosly doubt Israel gives a rat's @ss about Lebanon..The past 20 year history doesn't exactly point to them doing so..But one can always hope they do the right thing..If you ask me, if a nation does that much damage to another, they are obliged to help them rebuild..It even might help avoid hizbollah resurfacing by improving the image Israel has with the arabs (scant chance of that, but hey..it's worth a shot)

pffffffft aaaaaaaaaahahahahahahaha, help the lebanese rebuild.... that is the most hillarious thing I've heard all day. Yeah they'll help, just like they helped rebuild all of the places in Palestine they blew up. I used to have israel's back on this stuff, but the violence toward civilians had stopped between the two countries. Then Israel did some shit off of a beach in Palestine (whether the exercises were responsible for the explosions at the beach or it was explosives that were just sitting there, they should know not to fuck around if they want the cease fire to last). I've got a lot of respect for Hamas now, they managed to stem the violence when they took power. I mean what more can you really ask for? Then a soldier gets kidnapped and Israel goes and takes Palestine apart with a sledge hammer. They take elected government officials captive, I dunno about you guys but that seems at least a little bit of an over reaction to me. Then in response to the over reaction hezbollah raids an outpost. I mean yeah, hezbollah has a lot of influence in Lebanon's government, but how is it justifiable to destroy an international airport? And who is it that started attacking ivilian areas first this time? Israel. And who got pissed when their civilian areas got hit in response? Israel. Hypocritical? A bit in my view. Now outside ALL this, our government is giving Israel aid and a bunch of weapons and crap. Meanwhile, due to the actions of this crazy ass government, the american consumer is getting screwed because the destabalization of the region has the potential to disrupt our oil suppy, driving crude to an all time high and losing millions or billions of dollars per day for investors. Our government should be acting in the best interests of our citizens and telling them all to knock that shit off. The worst thing to ever happen in that area was Sharon's stroke, if he was still around this shit wouldn't be happening. And people that think this war is still about religion, you're living in a dream world. It isn't about Jews and Muslims anymore, it is about decent living conditions. It is about land that was taken away years ago that wasn't given back and should have been. It is about a country using a big stick and having no restraint. And should this conflict worsen and involve Syria, and inevitably Iran at that point, there is no telling what kind of economic impact that will have for people in the US or the rest of the world. This is the last thing this region needs.
