Anarchic Christians

Not exactly new but the Authority series from Wildstorm are pretty good. A bunch of hippie anarchists with superpowers. The politics is simplistic at best but it's a good read.
well i'm looking for something more like watchmen, invisibles, type stuff, but i'll check it out defeintely.
The Halo Graphic Novel is coming out soon. It's supposedly being written and illustrated by some of the best in the business.

Halo is like everything else thats entertaining to masses. it is becoming highly over rated and they are making too much crap for it.

Top Ten (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_10_%28comic%29), written by Alan Moore, is great stuff. I have Volume One and Volume Two (Issues 1 to 12), and I love it dearly.
Top Ten is about the police officers of Neopolis, a city where all of America's super-powered beings, mutants, and sentient robots have been forced to live. The police officers have to deal with issues like super-powered serial killers, robot street gangs, invisible perverts, and a host of others. It has a fantastic sense of quirky humor, and some real drama in it. It's absolutely fantastic.
If you liked the V for Vendetta movie that came out a bit ago, you'll probably want to pick up the newly reprinted V for Vendetta hardcover as well. If you didn't see V for Vendetta - well, I say pick up the graphic novel anyways. It's about a man who's more then a little bit off his rocker, who has a undertaken a personal mission, a vendetta, against the facist government of a future England. Through a campaign of terrorism, murder, and general violence, he hopes to restore freedom to the people once more.

Says you. I think it's a very well-worked series, with a great plot, evocative art design, and a cohesive universe about it. There's much more to the Halo franchise than mass-marketed run-and-gun action, if you know where to look...
Lots of DC comics are going to hell right now. Especially that whole crisis thingy in the DCU. What dumb beast thought that up?
The Inferior Five was good. And so was Ambush Bug. G + 5 = Ninja - E = 3
Flawless.
Somebody should make a comic about the Leaping Lepper: The lamest villain ever
The Sandman series by Neil Gaiman (and assorted artists) is awesome, and if you like that, the Lucifer series by Mike Carey (and assorted artists) is worth snagging too (it includes various Sandman characters but follows a different storyline).
Sin City is, of course, worth getting.
I'm a fan of The Collected Best of Hellraiser, but that's because I have a high tolerance for silliness and I seek out gore whenever possible. Some of the plots are decent though.
Platinum Grit is a great series, but it's not really like Watchmen/V for Vendetta/etc. Luckily you can read it for free online (at www.platinumgrit.com) and see if you like it first.

Well ever since the film version V for Vendetta has gotten pretty popular. Though i'm not a comic book fan so i always just go for Calvin and Hobbes.

3. Fruit Baskets by Natsuki Takaya (Tokyopop)
4. Gacha Gacha by Hiryuki Tamakoshi (Del Rey)

There are plenty of others but I think these might do for a start. Hope this helps. ^_~

"The Walking Dead" series.
Best zombie comics ever.
"The Preacher" series, by Ennis.
One of the best written stories ever put in a graphic novel.
"Batman: Death in the Family".
also, "Killing Joke"
This is some of the best Batman out there.
"The Sandman".
Also, very good.
All of the above can be obtained in graphic novel format, and all are excellent examples of great comics for adults.
Someone has already mentioned "Sin City", so I dont need to.
Richie Rich: Blood vengeance 2006
Richie seeks vengeance against Reggie Van Dough for the brutal slaying of Cadbury. Richie draws on his great wealth and the scientific genius of Professor Keenbean to construct a flesh eating virus targeted specifically against Dough's DNA. Unfortunately, Freckles and Pee-Wee give up the plot while being ritually tortured on an altar of bloody cash. All turns out well in the end when Richie's dog, Dollar, rips out Reggies throat at the last minute and saves the day.

I've started on "Lone Wolf and Cub" recently... fantastic stories. A great Japanese comic series that's not in the typical Manga style.

Transmetropolitan is a must. Buy the two first books (the first one is more of a prelude if you ask me) and check it out. Greatest (and funniest) vision of the future ever if you ask me.

Ive read a tiny bit of "Lone Wolf and Cub".
As for manga style...is it just me, or is that generally chalky and unpleasant?

I find the manga style a bit monotonous to be honest. There's very little character involed, it seems very stereotypical.

Same here... but I've got a feeling it's highly stylised and somewhat stereotypical as well.
