I want a Firefly Video Game

The Aeson

So Sci-fi is doing a Firefly marathon. Much as I am enjoying it, I'm painfully reminded of my lack of a Firefly video game. Is there one out there that I don't now about? Hopefully.

And so this doesn't get deleted for some bizzare reason, what do you guys think of Firefly?

It was a good show and Serenity was a good movie. Too bad Fox network gave the show a shitty time slot and cancelled it before it could gain a big following.

I'd hoped that after the movie they might start making new episodes, but no such luck.

To say nothing of running the episodes out of order and routinely pre-empting the show when it struck their fancy.

Well, maybe they'll make a serenity sequel.

Way I understand it Joss refuses to have anything to do with Fox. If Sci-Fi would buy the rights it's likely more would be made. Hopefully building from what happened between Objects In Space and Serenity.

This'll pass your time until then, if you don't mind being labeled a bigger geek than usual:

Well, can't do it without Joss. He's the brains behind it all.

Now it's time for a dumb and geeky question. Who do you think would win in a fight, River, the super chick from Firefly or Buffy the vampire slayer?

There's an extensive fan movement to get sequels to Serenity (or, less likely, new episodes of Firefly). Check out The Signal (http://www.serenityfirefly.com)- it's a fantastic podcast, and a must for any Browncoat!

While there aren't any Serenity video games, but there is a beautiful *free* space flight simulator out there called Orbiter (http://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk). It's focussed on technical accuracy and getting the physics right, and is a hell of a lot of fun.

The cool thing about Orbiter is that it's easily expandable. People create their own ships, planets, and solar systems. I don't have a link, but I do know that there are at least two add-ons (also free) that recreate a Firefly-class ship, both in appearance and performance characteristics. They've even included the shuttles! :-)

No reavers or ship to ship combat, but if you want to go "out to the black" this will let you soar like a leaf on the wind. :-)

One on one? I'd say River. Mind reading gives (in theory) the ability to know what your enemies are about to do before they do it. If they bring friends in? Well, I'd have to say it would go to Buffy then, although Xander, possibly Willow and Giles (shame, because all three of those are cool) would probably be dead before it was over.

Unless Willow goes all evil and then everyone's fucked. Wow, this is the geekiest conversation I've participated in in a long time.

Buffy, hands down. River is definitely a total badass, but she's still only human. The Slayer on the otherhand has no such limitations.

Yeah. Buffy may be superhuman, but Willow is for all intents and purposes a Goddess (and not just 'cuz she's hot). :fluffle:

Here's hoping this (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/news/comments/?entryid=267368) is true.

According to IGN FilmForce, Joss Whedon’s space serial might continue as a telemovie series, with "Serenity 2" going straight to the tube – the SciFi Channel, in fact. The SciFi Channel is part of the NBC Universal family.

Though Joss Whedon’s camp – that’s his camp, not the man himself…yet – has denied that a plan for a lower-budget telemovie sequel is in the works, it’s still possible that there is something simmering away here.

And yes folks, they would have to have Whedon’s approval if they were to do it, even if he didn’t helm it. (Just like the “Buffy” film sequel they wanted to do that would’ve starred Kristy Swanson again – and also, the new “Buffy” TV show that they tried to do ‘without’ Captain Tightpants pop.)

So keep your fingers crossed, Browncoats, and be sure to hit a DVD store on 12/20. That's when you can add "Serenity" to your DVD collection.

Thanks to Clint at Moviehole.net!"

Is it just me or does Browncoat sound dangerously close to brownshirt? I know one has nothing to do with the other, but the similarity in the name kind of creeps me out.

Brown Shirt or brown·shirt (broun'shûrt')
n.
A Nazi, especially a storm trooper.
A racist, especially a violent, right-wing one.

*shrug* I doubt that that was intentional. Browncoats= teh 7337.

Nazis= teh suxorz.

I'm sure it wasn't intentional, but people unfamiliar with Firefly might draw some funny conclusions.

Weren't Brownshirts actually Mussolini's thug squad?

That's crossed my mind too, but I've never heard of someone actually mistaking the two. The idea of "browncoats" goes back to the American civil war. The soldiers fighting for the South (which strongly and deliberately parallels the Independants in the Firefly 'verse) were often poor and ill-equipped. Their clothing- coats, pants, shirts- was often brown simply because that was the natural color and they couldn't afford dyes.

You know I think you're right, but the site I copied and pasted the definition from seems to disagree with us. I got the definition in my post from here. http://www.answers.com/brownshirt&r=67

You're both right. They were Mussolini's thug squad, and were violent racists. Mussolini, of course, was a fascist.

No, Nazis were the brownshirts (apparently surplus uniforms from the Afrika Korp that her going cheap originally). Mussollini's lot were the Blackshirts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackshirts) (Though to confuse matters the SS were also known as the "Blackshirts")

Have you ever played the Knights of the Old Republic games? They're about as close as you're gonna get to a Firefly game. BioWare's future game, Mass Effect, even more so. You could always pretend.

Firefly was and still is the greatest show that was ever on television.
