I'm very sorry, but Ireland has already been pledged to me, and I have no intention of calling any elections. I don't want to lose my new prize.

I think if you're going to do a thread on Irish General Elections you probably should learn a little about it first, starting with it's geography and location. :)

To my utter dismay I think FG are gonna get in with Labour.....a rather unlikely pairing, and that government will be disasterous. I know FF are bad but really but come on. Enda Kenny isn't that good a politician, while Pat Rabbitt is always there for a laugh...to be laughed at. It is quite funny that that **** (excuse my language but the recent debackle over Mr A is unforgiveable) McDowell thinks he can win leadership of the PD's.

Though I despise the Blueshirts with a passion, the fact is that poxy PDs are as right wing as they are, if not more so. I'd say it'll be PD's and FF though, hopefully with 'healthy eating' Harney and the Minister for Just-us gone.

Seconded.

And I'll vote on a Consitiut. basis, not a national one.

In case people are actually interested in who's who.... though I doubt it... here's a summary of those with representation:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fianna_F%C3%A1il - Fianna Fail (Centre-Right, Centre-Centre Left or just plain Centre depending on what gets the most votes)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fine_Gael - Fine Gael (Centre-Right)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labour_Party_(Ireland)) - Labour (Left theoretically, although becomming more Centre)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_Democrats - PD (Right)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Party_(Ireland)) -Greens (Right and Left depending on the issue)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinn_F%C3%A9in - Sinn Fein (Right and Left again depending on the issue)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialist_Party_(Ireland)) -Socialists (Waaay Left- Trotskyist)

bit of a bizarre poll:

FF are govt but the pd's arent?

fg are opp but the rest arent?

no greens, or SF despite them both being bigger than the PD's in terms of votes and membership?

there are more than 2 alternative goverments:

FF

FF PD

FF SF

FF L

FF G

FG L

FG L G

FG PD

bit more juice to it than you have given options

I'd vote Fine Gael if I lived in the Republic. I love Enda Kelly's message on his billboard advertising: "I'll make criminals pay for their crimes". Just shows you how effective advertising can be. I developed instant respect for the man.

Beyond his slogans, of course, I know pretty much fuck all about the man and his party, so could be jumping up the wrong tree. But it (and some of the other slogans I saw from him) were just excellent: simple, but fantastically to the point.

;)

FF SF and FF G wouldnt happen why?

they will go into power with literally anyone for the sake of power and have far more ideological affinity with SF than PD, in theiry anyway.

FG PD are one and the same, a merger was discussed at one point

you have hit on the major problem for the blusehirts, credibility

what does that mean, criminals will pay for their crimes? its all soundbite and no substance at the moment.

But the question is did Enda mean Irish criminals or the ones in Kenya?
