there is already "safest nation" thread, so I thought it worthy to say: safe nations are boring.
they don't have crimes.
they don't haveterror nor wars.
they don't have natural disasters.
they don't have plagues.
they don't have large scale accidendts or building crashes.
the only thing they had is suicides, because their people are bored to death.

so, what nation is the most extreme place in the world?

Iraq or North Korea.

The backside of flatulent camel can be quite an extreme place to live.

OP is probably not a native speaker. It should be "they don't have plagues". I'm not sure what the rule is, but thats how it is.

As for the least safe or most dangerous country I would have to say any nation that is transitioning between 3rd/2nd world status. Where there is still a low level of education and public service, but just enough money coming in for the crazies to buy dangerous toys.

I think Lebanon, Palestine, and Iraq are the trifecta at the moment...

For a nation not in any kind of warfare, I'm going with mozambique, being up there at least. Pretty bad down there.

Unsafe is Sierra Leona (25.9 years of healthy life for babies born in 1999) Niger, Uganda and Zimbabwe, I'd also throw good old Somalia in there too.

Bad enough when terrorists are after you but what about when even the normal people are desperate enough to kill you.

North Korea is a very safe place to live as long as you don't piss off the government. Not a pleasant place to live by any stretch of the imagination, but it's not unsafe (in terms of crime, etc...).

I would probably have to say Isreal, Syria, Lebanon, Pakistan, India.

I am making a prediction for Pakistan and India. Fighting has not broken out yet, but the most recent terror attacks, may lead to a war between the two nations.

By default if you say Congo, it usually means the Rep. of the Congo, but I assume you actually mean the DRC?

Try to spend a season in Sao Paulo, in Medellín or in Caracas (Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela respectively)

They have a higher mortality rate by firearms in one weekend than in Irak in an entire week. Somalia seems to be a hard spot to find anything to eat, although, and to avoid being raped by machete-wielding, breasts remover fanatics.

But as far as security goes, I owuld say any Brazilian or Colombian big city. Colombia wins by the fact that is the sicarios or the narcs or the paramilitary militias do not get you in the cities, the FARC guerrilla will get you out in the fields or the jungle.

ah, damn. Yes, I mean the DRC (former Zaire). I know both have their problems but DRC is worse at the moment. More than 4 million deaths since 1998.
