Sophomore slump. Ugh.

Well, I guess it's time I admit it. My sophomore year of college didn't even remotely measure up to my freshman year. I only pulled A's in advanced major courses, and where I had above a 3.6 freshman year, I had below a 3.2 sophomore year. I really have to wonder, is there something about success that makes us slack off after we've accomplished it or something ridiculous like that? I dunno.

Ehhh soon as you move more into your major in the next year or so it will come back up …
For me it was no longer new and I got into a grueling work schedule and had not yet had REALLY interesting courses… soon as my classes started to interest me more it was a hell of a lot of fun

I'm counting on that. I experienced a lot a mediocrity from my instructors last year, either in the fact that they were incompetent and not felt worthy to be teaching major level students in their fields, or they were competent, but wanted to focus on things other than the GEC class I was taking. I can think of one or two who actually seemed interested in their GEC students.

Is your major philosophy, art, African languages, or film?

No.
Double Major in Political Science and International Affairs, with two minors, one in German, the other in Public Affairs.

That’s exactly it … trust me as long as your major is what you really want to go in your enthusiasm will come back with a passion… not only that but you tend to have the more advanced profs

Yeah, so far my major courses have been tough but awesome. They've made me work, but my work has been motivated and of a high quality. Hopefully I'll catch my fire again at the beginning of next year.

In Australia GPAs are from 2 (absolute and total fail) to 7 ("high distinction").
My first semester from High School I got two 6, one 5 and a 4. I was shattered...a 4 is nothing more than a "pass".
I got into it a bit more from there on, getting averages of 6.25 for the next three semesters.
And now, this last one, I fell back to the same level as in the first! I'm blaming it on three things: First, I started to work much more. Second, I had some shoddy luck when it came to group assignments. But then, that's socialism for you.
But thirdly: Yeah, I got complacent. The problem is that you start assuming that good results are normal, and just come to you. But they don't...even "smart people" need to do a bit of work sometimes. So for next semester I cut down my work times, gave myself two days a week free which I'm going to use for revising uni stuff. It's the most work I've put in so far, and I'm expecting at least a 6.5.
Well, probably your classes are harder.
