Are you good off today economically.

this is a take on President Ronald Reagan's question are you better off today than you were 4 years ago, which is one of the reasons he won re election in 1984 winning 49 out of the 50 states, winning 58.77 Percent of the national vote to 40.56 Percent, by a diffrence of 18.21 Percent.

He lost to Walter Mondale the state of Minnesota 49.70 to 49.50 Percent, Walter Mondale's home state.

He lost the District of Columbia to Walter Mondale 85.40 to
13.70 Percent.

He won the national election 58.77 Percent to 40.56 Percent, by a diffrence of 18.21 Percent.

Yes, I am better off. It is mostly related to the fact that four years ago I did not even work and to the fact that my country has fastest growing economy in EU.
Everything's growing.

Four years ago, I was 14 and had £150. (Plus about £10,000 from the death of my uncle)

Today I'm 18 and have £310. (Plus £10,000 and four years interest on the £10,000)

Therefore I am better off today.

What the rest of the OP means, I havent got a clue.

No. Four years ago we had our own house, and drove a Mercedes.

Today I'm delivering Pizza to earn enough money to allow my family to stay in our rented house.

I blame Reagan.

Now, send me money.

Yes and no. Four years ago I was a student with a very small loan. Now I'm working but I'm also building a house -> HUGE loan

TODAY I'm almost penniless. We got 3 bills yesterday, total: 15 863€ :D

Easy, as I posted in the introduction page post #1, it is a take on the question President Ronald Reagan used during his re-election campaign, Are you better off today than you were 4 years ago, which is one of the reasons he won re-election.

Since I am a proud President Ronald Reagan fan, I decided to include the statistics on my thread, LOL.

Well off? Yes, I'd say so. Could be better, will be better in the future, but it's really ok right now.
Better off than 4 years ago? In numbers, yes. But back then I had a job I loved (curse you, German economy measures and blind ignorance!), now I've got a job that pays better.... meh.

Just to clarify this and avoid confusion :

Ronald Reagan has f**k all to do with the fact that I'm financially better off now than I was 4 years ago.

Because it's something to be celebrated and it's relevant because it shows how popular Reaganomics were in his first term.

I am better off today than I was 4 years ago, but this has very little to do with government policy and has nearly everything to do with the way my union negotiates contracts.

Yeah, I'm way better off than I was 4 years ago. And I'm talking real increases in income, not because of soaring house prices or cheap loans. Even if you look at polls, about 60-65% of people say their financial situation is good to excellent and only 35% say it is fair to poor. Of course, 5 or so years down the line things will be great and getting better for me because there will be a growing shortage of skilled workers...that means soaring salaries and more negotiating leverage.

Generally, peoples' perception of the economy differs vastly from their own financial situation; it's entirely possible to talk an economy in to recession despite gains in income and living standards, which is why criticism of economic policies has to be carefully worded and applied accurately.

Four years ago I had £1000 in the bank, and was at school. Now I have -£200 in the bank, a degree, and am unemployed. So no, I'm not better off. It's quite possible Reagan's fault.

Am I better off than I was 4 years ago? In some ways yes, in some ways not.

4 years ago I was a Specialist in the US Army, bringing in about $1400/month net. I didn't have to pay for housing or food, so that wasn't all that bad. Now I'm a student, but I get money from the VA when I'm at school, so between Uncle Sam and work I make about $1400/month still, but I have to pay for rent and food. However, rent and food here are reasonably priced (I play $390 for a decent enough 1 bedroom apartment).

It also doesn't help that my state has been in an economic death-spiral for the last six years. Yay for single state recessions!

It's ironic that one of the main cause of Michigan's problems is its Single Business Tax...the SBT produces a single-state recession. Even worse, the state can't really afford to do without the income the tax provides; of course, it doesn't help that GM is near bankruptcy or that Ford is unloading 30,000 jobs from its US operations, but that's just part of the problem.

Of course, you're not technically in a recession (0.1% growth last year!) but the 6% unemployment and falling payrolls suggest otherwise.
