You guys need to learn your history. The US Forces that arrived in early 1918 didn't fight for most of the time they were there. The US commander considered it necessary to train his troops further before they went into action.
When the Germans started their spring offensives, Allied commanders asked the Americans to send troops, which they didn't do in any meaningful scale. The Germans pushed onwards but made strategic and tactical mistakes which caused them to lose too many dudes, particularly well-trained veteran stormtroops which couldn't be replaced. The British and French, as well as their colonial forces, held on bravely until the German offensive ran out of puff.
Only then, when Ludendorff was already telling people that Germany had lost the war, did US Forces begin their own serious operations. Together with the Allies they cleaned up the weakened Germans and pushed them back.
In short, the US effort in WWI was primarily economical and political, not through military. It was the threat of US Forces that did the most, not the forces themselves.

I find myself in a constant sense of amazement at just how self-centered the French government is, but that is Realpolitik and not unusual.

However, I find myself totally dumbstruck at just how idiotic we Americans are when the French are discussed. Just like our country they have made good decisions and bad ones, there are good people and bad people in France. I personally think M. le President Chirac is a twit, but no worse of an idiot than Blair or Bush. If France is very fortunate they will not allow Dominique de Villepin to succeed him. The French Conservatives have made a hash of France and de Villepin is a big reason why.

I say to my French friends, bon chance. They will need nearly as much luck as the US does in the next national election.

This is a seriously stupid poll.

You put up ten options, and that's all the diversity of opinion you can represent?
Not to mention splitting both positive and negative views into redundant options.
Only two options, the headbutting one and the "I live there, you idiot" one are in any way specific.

Here's where you point out that the poll was a joke.
Someone post the same poll, with "the US" where it says "France," and we'll see just how funny it is.
I didn't vote. The poll is retarded and flamebait.

things i learned about te french in france

1. The women are not ugly and hairy, like ppl say sometimes...there are plenty of hot chicks to go around.

2. I really did not hear much about Jerry Lewis over there.

3. They are not that rude. Seriuously. I was over there for three weeks and i noticed two rude people. go to new york city, and you'll see that many in 2 seconds. Yeah, sometimes they bitch a little if you don't speak their language. but we do that too...(*cough*mexico*cough*...hey could someone hand me one of those lozangers?)

4. People are not over there being like "we hope america fails in Iraq"...they decided it was going to be a long, hard fight they had no buisiness in back at the beginning...and now a lot of americans wish Dubya had thought the same thing

mostly what i learned is that just like everywhere else on the fucking earth, the french are pretty much the same. yeah, you have your jackasses and stuck up people and your people thathate the rest of the world...but no more there than everywhere else.

Pretty much what people see wrong with the french, they refuse to see wrong with their country.

in fact in early 1918 German forces moved within 75 miles of Paris close enough to shell it with three long range Krupp guns. American forces arrived and along with fresh Brits and Frogs, helped push the Germans away
Ah, the Ludendolf offensive, germanys last gasp attempt to win the great War. Contary to popular (American) balif the Americans did not force back the Ludendoff offensive. A mixture of stratigic blunders, the British Naval Blockade and pure stupidity on behalf of the Germans forced the offensive back.

By 1918 Germany was in ruins. They had no nitratesthanks to the British blockade which is vital to grow crops, which meant that a large amnount of Germanys population was starving. All available food and metals ect. where being diverted to the Western front where almost 5 million german soildiers had died. The German General knew there country was on the brink of collapse but, being mainly of perussian decent and of the upper classes, they had this idea of fighting to the last man.

So they devised a way to try and break through the deadlock of the trenches finally. led by general Ludendoff, a startigic genius who had a slight oversight for logistics, they formed there best and most experiencd troops into groups of stormtroopers. These groups then advanced slowly across no-mans land taking days to cross 50 or so meters. Once they where on the cusp of the Allied lines the Germans launched a poision gass attack. whiule the Allied troops where fumbling with gas masks the Stromtroopers attacked along the entire line, making it impossable for there enermys to concentrate there forces.

quickly the front line trenches of the allies where taken with bitter fighting and the Germans advanced and slowly 'cleared out' the Allies from the trench system. However due to the high risk nature of this stratagy almost all the Stormtroopers died in the attack leaving the Germans without there best troops. The Germans advanced swiftly, the allies retreating, meanwhile American renforcements where arriving in britaany but not yet commited.

However this is where Ludendolfs logistic inexpertise came into play. He advanced to quickly and there wasn't enough food coming from germany. The allies burnt the land as they retreated and so the Germans starved. Then groups of allied cavalry and elite teams attacked the german supply lines, foricng the Germans to retreat. with most of there best dead they began to retreat and kept on retreating as the allies too back the trenches. It was at this point when the war was certainly lost the armisice was signed.

I was living in France for nine months and I made some really great friends. They are proud of their tongue and culture, and it's normal, 'cause it was the lighthouse of europe for centuries. I think here lies a lesson for the USA in the future. I've always thought that they are so hatred by many people, specially in the US, 'cause they've never wanted to lost their political freedom inside the west block (NATO and so) and within the last war, the won the respect of most european citizens, 'cause most of us saw Irak war as an illegal war. The reaction from the Dubya Gov, just reassured our feelings (freedom fries, buffff). Now they are proved to be right, although I dislike a lot Chirac's gov.

And if Britain and US save them in the WWI, why were they considered to have the world best army until 1940? Of course, they lost the France Battle, but is funny to make jokes about it when an ocean is between you and your enemies. The USSR was a stronger country and they needed some two years to stop the nazis and more than 20 million casualties. The nazis were won by the rest of the world together, not by one single country.

Aside from the usual popular sites, I didnt have such a wonderful time there. I dont hold anything against the people in general, only the individuals I dealt with. I may very well get along fine with my own french counterpart, but as far as the police, cab drivers, waitstaffs, and a pickpocket-I didnt like them much.
I could say the same about those same people in NYC though.

Um... See England

England has nothing on France in terms of cultural snobbery.

Normandy is ok. Paris, on the other hand, must be the French word for "place where jerks live".

Well, I was in Brittany and it was about the same as Paris.

The poll is retarded and flamebait.
i hate you

Trolling. Not even the non-obscene / non-gay options save this. *Click*
