Oh noes - just hearing it on the news:

Jürgen Klinsmann has decided to not keep his job as head coach of the German national soccer team.

Apparently because his family still lives in California, but no official word yet. I kinda thought it would turn out like that, esp. because of his family. That must have sucked to be separated from them for so long. Plus, he's not stupid, he knows exactly that people wouldn't always have been so niceynice to him as they're now.

That's bad, both him and his team rocked. I expected him to lead them in Africa 2010...

He was kind of cute, too. Too bad he's married.

I had a small crush on him ever since I was in my early teens, and when everybody was bashing him (way back in the nineties, if not even late 80s) for a few years because his career stalled, I always stuck up for him. *nod* :p

Oh, that'd be fantastic! (Or, at the VERY LEAST, more fantastic than Bruce Arena...)

Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann has decided not to continue in the job, according to German media reports.
German sports news agency SID said team manager Oliver Bierhoff had indirectly confirmed Klinsmann's decision not to renew his contract.

Assistant coach Joachim Loew is set to replace Klinsmann.
Yup.

I just hope Löw learned enough from Klinsi. And that the idiots from the DFB keep their noses in the bottle and out of Löw's job.

Not a good week for you overall huh? First the 2-0 result, then THE incident, now this. Hope you have a better luck in the near future.

Why would any worldclass coach want to coach a 10th rate club?
I mean they have a reputation to protect. And probably a little selfrespect.

Maybe he felt it could only go down from here? Third palce, loved by all but how long till the press on his back and then decide that they should have gone further?

I don't think so. Klinsmann will sit down with his players and settle stuff. And Löw is probably the ideal replacement, seeing as to how he was much of the brains behind the tactics and stuff anyways.

Is Löw as good a motivator and as charismatic a figure? Hardly. But I think they'll manage.

Also, I found this interview with Klinsmann just before the tournament started. Amazing what difference a few football matches make sometimes.

Here's hoping for that. As for him coaching an American club team, I hope not, but we'll just have to wait and see on that.

I can't really blame him for quitting...
i mean, remember how everyone was hitting and punching on him before the WM started... they laughed about his training methods, they laughed when he said he wanted to make Germany the world champion in 2006 back in 2004...
nobody even gave him a chance or believed in him.
They were also yelling at him because he lives in California... so what? as long as he was in Germany when he was needed here, I fricking don't care where he lives.
So it's the Germans and especially Bild Zeitung to blame.
If I were Klinsmann I would also say "fy guys, I'm going home."
Meaning home = California.

of course it's said.
I hoped as well that he'll go on.

Bruce Arena might be sweating a little as Klinsi lives in the USA. The USA soccer people might be waving money around.

NO!!!!! this means the US will most likely get him. damnit. He should have stayedI doubt it. One of his main issues with not keeping the job is that he wants to spend time with his family and that he wants his privacy back. He certainly enjoyed being Germany's coach, so I think that he wants to avoid the stress with the responsibility of coaching.

Yeah, ditto to everything you said.

And you can bet that as soon as they would have lost their next international match to some last-ranked country, all the nay-sayers would have come running out of their holes again.

It's really sad to see him leave, but more power to him.

Oh, and I absolutely *hate* the way commentators (on TV and radio) are doing this "Well, but to refute the wishes of a whole country, isn't that just selfish?" thing. WTF? Why should anyone let their lives be dictated by what people want? Especially because we all know how long the memory of people really is. Gah.
