IS it okay to be a little freaked out about that first link...?

Cuz if she really said all that about getting an abortion...

Not that I don't support the legalization of it, I'm just against the concept but I accept that it is kind of a necessary evil... but Jesus... 0.o

The onion is an online spoof of a newspaper

No articles in the onion are real.

Many are hilarious

....you realise what the joke is all about right?

The author of this blog took this article from The Onion. The Onion is a "fake" news page, it's entirely humor, NOTHING on it is real. Not this piece, not any other "opinion" pages, not some article about how US generals in Iraq are launching an operation to "bring in the noise, bring in the funk" offensive.

NONE of it is serious. It is ALL fake. The article he linked to is rediculous for a reason, it's humor, it's satire, it is 100%, NOT REAL.

Isnt it funny. When someone experess outrage at satire against muslims its called upon as racist, yet when someone expresses outrage at satire againt pro-lifers its funny. So she thought it was real. Well she's given us an example of someone who is real and thinks the same kind of things. I'd call it a fair mistake, from someone not wholely clued up on the internet.

Um, he told us about some person he supposedly met in the field. Who knows if he's telling the truth, and really, should one anecdotal crazy woman really change our minds even if she is real?

Isnt it funny.

No, it isn't. It's sad, actually. It goes to demonstrate that this author has demonized anyone who doesn't agree in his head to the point that he would believe something which is obviously satire. He is so sure that anyone who would have an abortion is an evil, callous murderer that it was easy for him to mistake obvious satire for a serious article.

When someone experess outrage at satire against muslims its called upon as racist, yet when someone expresses outrage at satire againt pro-lifers its funny.

No one expressed outrage at satire against pro-lifers. You must have missed the context, my dear. What the Onion did was take all the idioitic things that the anti-choice crowd say about anyone who gets and abortion, and they created a fake person to have the attitudes made up by said people. "Pro-lifers" weren't made fun of or satirized.

Meanwhile, someone actually comes along who has demonized anyone who gets and abortion to the point that they actually believe their own drivel. Thus, they assume that the satire is real. Talk about missing the point.

So she thought it was real.

Which just goes to demonstrate the extent to which he has demonized those who don't agree with him.

Well she's given us an example of someone who is real and thinks the same kind of things.

No, she hasn't. In fact, the example he gives has nothing at all to do with the satiric ideas presented in the Onion article. At worst, he was talking to a nihlist. Most likely, he was talking to someone else whose sarcasm was lost on him.

I'd call it a fair mistake, from someone not wholely clued up on the internet.

You don't have to be clued up on the internet to recognize satire - not unless you have already decided that the satirical position is true.

Okay... I didn't realize the author had quoted the Onion, I know what the Onion is and I know it isn't serious, but I never saw any mention of the Onion... Probably wasn't paying enough attention. Heh.

Actually, it's not too surprising, given that many fundamenatlists ( of whatever religion ) are among the most grim people in the world. Remember the uproar over the Danish newspaper's cartoons? People were actually killed in the rioting ... over CARTOONS! Sigh. :(
