If you had it to leave in your will who or what would you leave it to?

I'd leave it to a furnace. I can't take it with me, but I'm still sure as fucking hell not giving it up.

Just out of spite, I'd stipulate that the money be used to build a five million dollar monument to my greatness.:p

Eh, really I'd probably leave it to some charity or something, maybe get a bunch of wells named after me.

Brother to raise my nephew.

I would leave the money to my sister, but only if she had me stuffed and somehow attached me to the wings of her private jet. (Which she'd have to buy.)

I'd split it between five people that mean the most to me

Parents - they can have a mil
Brother - he can have half a mil
Best Friends thay can have 1 mil split 3 ways
Partner & Kids (if I have any at the time) - equally split the rest

I'd have a scholarship set up at my school to help those with potential, but no money to back them.

I think it would work for a long time if they kept collecting the bank interest..

I'd give about half of it to my family, and the otherhalf to various FOSS groups (like ALSA, Gnash, GNOME, etc.)

Apparently in wills you can put all sorts of crazy conditions to allow the money to be passed on, so the lucky person would have to do something like run the London marathon wearing tin foil.

I think that I would have to leave some fun behind.

First I would set aside 3 million dollars to go to charities, primarily ones dealing with college scholarships, musical scholarships, and treatment/prevention of abuse.

Then I would cut the 2 million remainder up into 5 parts and assign them to family members and a friend, providing they followed my instrucitons.

1. My mother would have to dye her hair an awful shade of pink and leave it that way for half a year.

2. My father would have to destroy his computer with a sledgehammer.

3. My littlest brother would have to not say a word for 48 hours (that should take him a decade).

4. My other brother would have to learn to play guitar and form a band (he hates rock).

5. My best friend would have to dress up in Chewbacca's outfit for a year and declare himself to be "Jewbacca" (there's a long story behind this, and it's of his own making).

I would also give one penny to the GOP, along with a note reading "Bad Service get's you a one penny tip."

I'd buy some crisps, I think. Kettle Chips, to be precise. Because I'd be rather happy.

But the rest I'd stick in the bank, and then I'd spend it on my friends and such, whilst still letting some of it pile up a bit with interest.

You're forgetting the fact that Kettle Chips are really tasty. I'd want, say, ten packets for the afterlife.

Fine, that's five quid fifty, but it's something.

And I misread the topic - I thought it was "what'd you do if left 5 million dollars".

Urmm I'd probably leave all of it to Water Aid, to stop any bickering amongst family and friends which arises when wills are involved, and Water Aid have a genuinely good idea about how to solve LEDC problems.

I'd split it between some groups that do good things, like the NRA, ACLU, and People for the American Way.

Those "freedom fighters" could sure use some help

Two million to charities.

Two million going to my wife/kids if I have any, and my sister if I do not.

One million to be distributed in the following method. My lawyer (or whoever ends up in charge of carrying this out) is to go to anywhere where there are street performers, pick his or her favorite, and give it to them.

Given the value of diamonds, that statue will be a lot smaller than you think, and will be vandalized and dismantled before you can even say "WTF". :D

I would have the access to the 5 million located somewhere on Earth. Whoever finds it first will get the money! The only clue is this. It's somewhere on Earth. :D

i'd give it to soup lines and homeless shelters if they weren't run by christerism and propigandisers of christerism.

Id give a million each to my sis and my mother and set up a trust fund for free spaying and neutering of peoples dogs.
