I always end up coming back to Nationstates, reading everything on the boards, then getting frustrated with outrageous opinions and vowing to leave for good, only to come back again because this community is always useful for something. So here I am again, and I have a question which I think a few of you guys here at NS would hopefully do a good job of answering...
This is what happened...
I was at work today, when the subject of self defense with a gun came up. The discussion came and went quickly and it was kind of unclear, but the jist of it was one girl I worked with was insisting that you are not allowed to defend yourself from a roberry with a gun in Maine. But our subject also seemed to cover being allowed to defend yourself at all with a gun. Again, the discussion was pretty unclear and the two things were mixed together; but she definately had at least implied (if not explicity stated) that we aren't allowed to defend ourselves with guns in Maine. She also invoked a reference to a situation where a robber was once in a person's house, and the robber was shot, and the robber was allowed to sue.
Now first, please don't condescendingly laugh at me for taking this seriously (I don't take it seriously exactly, but I want to respond and I don't want to trash anyone when I respond.) As you can probably guess, the girl was fairly young, and was probably mixing a few ideas together on accident, and I really doubt she knew completely what she was talking about, though I am sure she was trying to make some honest point. I just told her that I seriously doubted what she said was true, in whatever sense she beleived it was true, and I was left with a challenge to "look it up." I guess look it up meant look up something about self-defense.
So basically I want to sort out this mess, and would appreciate any clear contributions. It's hard wading through all the Maine law online, but I did find this page...

If any of you can find a page on Maine law that clearly talks about this, it would be appreciated. Also, if there are any glaring logical loopholes on my side or hers, please point them out. Thanks...
