WC: Did your team lose to Italy or France?

If one of the teams in the final had been the one to eliminate your favourite team, would you want them to win, or come second?
This question was put to the commentary team on SBS TV in Australia. Being eliminated by the Cup champion means your team could have come second, had the draw been different. Or perhaps your desire for vengeance is stronger.
Both the commentators went for Vengeance. Down with Italy!
For the record, Italy defeated Australia, Ukraine and Germany, and France defeated Spain, Brazil and Portugal.
USA supporters: your team was the only one to meet Italy and not lose. Be proud!

Both my teams lost to Italy!
But to be honest, I was rooting for them in the final, even though their second half wasn't too flash. Not for any particular reason other than I liked their style of play more than France's.
Looking back, I was quite neutral about this.
Australia lost to Italy, but I was going for both teams equally, so I wouldn't change anything. Especially since it worked out fine in the end anyway (hurrah, Italia!)

Well, we lost vs. France, but I didn't expect very much about us. I rooted for Italy 2-0 for personal reasons not related to vengeance.

Both of my teams lost to Italy. All three, if you count that I wanted Australia to win in retrospect.
I wanted France to win.

I was torn.
I've got this french teacher that is hot, so i was like "go france" a bit
then again, i like italians, they invented my favorite food, pizza!

all in all, i was sad germany didn't won :/

I was quite neutral about the final. However, I was happy to see Portugal lose the 3rd place match and that was most definitely vengeance :D

France met Italy and didn't lose either. They tied.
My team was Italy so my team did not lose to either Italy or France.

Neither Argentina nor New Zealand suffered a loss to either of those teams.
Which may have more to do with the fact that that game didn't go into extra time or penalty shootouts...
America might have won that game in extra time.

My WC passions (yes I go bananas too).. are driven like this..
#1(in the tournament) I want the teams who get the "calls" (zebra) to lose.. I want them desperately to lose.
#2 (game of the day) I want the more talented team (of the day) to win.
So at the beggining of the WC I want a team like Italy to lose.
but Italy talent shinned at the Germany game.. they are no Argentina.. but they really won me over..

You're also delusional. You will note in Fifa history that Italy did not lose to France in '98 or to Brazil in the final in '94. The games are listed as draws. PKs take place after the game ended.

Yes yes, I know... but in 1998 and in 1994 we substantially lost to France and to Brazil... so in 2006 we have substantially win against France! The only real draw is that between Italy and US!

That said: THE ONLY REASON THE US TIED ITALY WAS DUE TO THE ITALIAN OWN GOAL!
I've seen the same thing on American (ESPN channel) "Will the US's tie with champions Italy fill them with fire for 2010?"

My team lost to Italy & I wanted France to win, but it was more to do with the fact that I speak French & like their players more.
