I'm at work right now, I know Italy won from seeing people speeding down the streets with Italian flags waving out of their sun-roofs and windows.

But what stupid French guy might you be referring to?

I didn't realize that Americans were following the World Cup. I'm glad to hear it though because I strongly support the World Cup, as do many progressives, because it is much more civilized than the NFL.

Did you see the first PK? If you want to talk about diving, maybe you should refer to the French, or every team really. While France did deserve a PK later on, that first PK was a joke!

Yes, finally the luck went the Italians way. Makes up for the last four.

If by "luck" you mean "bribing the referees", then yes, you'd be correct.

No evidence that the refs have been bribed by the Italians. It certainly wasn't in the 2002 though they did overact rather badly to being knocked out by a very fortunate Korea

also Italy second goal was not off-side.

I am not saying Italians do not get the "calls" sometimes.. I am just saying this ref was clean.

FIFA is corrupted.. and they do put a shit on the zebras shoulders..

The fact of the matter is Italy deserved to win, they put on a good show all the cup, whereas the French started badly and mediocre and then they started playing well but in the end the ones who won were the ones who deserved it and that was Italy.

Too bad Zidane had to headbutt Materazzi. But it's not the first time he's lost it in a final game. Remember when he stomped the foot of a brazilian player on France 98?

Right boys! Next WC, we're going to drop like flies all over the place to win fouls and penalties! That's the honourable way to win.

They dive once and you act like they threw themselves to the ground every single second. Besides s/he never said they played honrouble, thought did play fair mostly, so why you went down that path I don't know.
Not bad

No more rabid nationalism over soccer and diving for two more years until the Olympic games arrive!

Every team dove. Just for the record, my neice who is Italian and French, kept asking why the FRENCH team kept diving.

EVERY team dives and it was going to be a day of diving when the ref gave a penalty in the first five minutes, to a guy who DOVE! Thankfully, the ref gave a non call to make up for the error later, when Italy did bring a guy down in the box.

I think the second goal by Italy was offsides, but they certainly weren't in 2002!

I think there was a lot of dirty play in this WC and the players are getting spoiled. I liked that the officiating was tight, but it didn't make it good. They made some atrocious calls that really changed the game.

Zidane's headbutt was a result of frustration and that is typical of him. He has a record like that but most people choose to ignore it. Zidane was taken out of the game, as was Totti. Zidane was clearly going nutter after Buffon made that spectacular save on his header and it was only a matter of time.

This game was similar to the other matches Italy had with France, and they both have similar styles. France mimics Italy but tries to attack more. Italy changed tactics slightly in the tournament but increasingly went back to their counter attack style the further they got. It was markedly evident against France in the latter stages of the game.

They always drop, are you German? Because if you are I understand your frustration, you wouldn't support the team that eliminated yours.

I'm a she ;) and yeah they did play fair the most part of the match. Malouda dived on the first penalty, he should have been yellow carded when he tried the same thing two times later.

Malouda dived on the first penalty, he should have been yellow carded when he tried the same thing two times later.

It is true that if you carefully watch the replay, the foul is at least questionable. However, I and my friends watching the game (all Italians) blamed Materazzi for the PK. When you are a defender, you cannot intervene like that, and if you get a PK, that's what you deserve. Perhaps Malouda dived, but careless defense is prone to punishment, and one shouldn't rely on the attacker to avoid a PK. So the PK was probably legitimate.

It is true that when I tried to make the same point for Italy's PK against Australia (which I reckon to be more controversial, but not a blatant mistake) most people thought I was biased... which is very possible.
