Now I know that First World reffers to the generally well off countries. USA, UK, France, etc.

And I know that third world reffers to the countries that really aren't well off...

But...

what happened to the Second world? Am I missing something here?

The second world was the Soviet Bloc, but since it collapsed we don't have one any more.

We now use the terms MEDCs (More economically developed countries) and LEDCs (Less economically developed countries) to stop that kind of question.

Yes, we're all missing something here. It's the "Second World," which use to be the USSR and it's assorted satellites and client states. Unfortunately for them, they couldn't keep up, and were given to NATO as a birthday present. :D
