What does attending the Stanley Cup Finals have to do...

Misses goal, says taxpayers.*

Apparantly Harper got to jump ahead in the ticket buying queue and flew a private get to Edmonton on the tax payer's dollar. For what?

Wasn't Harper bitching about this sort of crap in the run up to the election, or am I mistaken on that?

*Credit new for title and opening pun go to Kanabia
edit: Why didn't the thread title change? :(

The problem is your topic. You apparently didn't take journalism in highschool, aka English where you don't do work, so you don't know that the topic needs to be attention grabbing and make people want to read.

Yeah, you should've given it the title, 'Hypocritical Harper Wastes Taxpayers' $$$ on Hockey Extravaganza".

Haha yeah, I'll post because I'm interested and I kinda feel bad.

So yeah, it might seem wrong for a politician to attend the Stanley Cup and waste the poor taxpayers hard earned money,
BUT let me tell you something,
this is the year 2006, about 57% our registered voters participate in the PRESIDNETIAL election, and most people have no idea of who they're local representatives are.
Campaigning and putting yourself out in public light has become the most important aspect of being a politician BY FAR.

OK, presidential candidates spent 5 billion $$$ total on the election in 2004.

But Americans spent 60 Billion on illegal drugs that year. They also spent $15 Billion solely on porn in 2004.
What I'm trying to say is that candidates need to spend money in order to increase voter awareness, they don't really spend that much.
And even if it is tax-payer dollars that pay for it, it goes to a good cause.

Yeah, but that's blowing it out of proportion a little.

Not bad, but how about:

Harper Passed Puck on Fund Usage:
Misses Goal, say Taxpayers.

lol.

Ok, perhaps I'll change the title and first line then as that's a good pun and it would be a shame if it went to waste.

with running a country?

Apparantly enough to justify bumping oneself ahead in the ticket buying queue and flying a private get to Edmonton on the tax payer's dollar.

I've seen this all before except replace Jet( Because we are too poor) with Motorcade and add excessive speeds 124km/h(Average not top speed) on country roads which is breaking the law so Our Glorious Leader could attend a Rugby match.

Well, you want posts...

I can't think of anything big to say, other than that was a big waste of taxpayers dollars, like the time Bush flew the fighter pilot off a carrier and took it around for a little.

It's not just that it was a waste of taxpayer dollars, it was also unfair to other hockey fans, who would have been paying out of their pockets to attend the game, in that Harper and his contingent got to jump the line to obtain tickets.

Well in that case, "PM Harper is a rat-bastard" would have sufficed as a thread title.

Seems like Minutes in the box to me.
I'd make a joke about him getting done for slashing money form the budget but he didn't...

Harper own goals into empty net?

If Paul Martin or Jack Layton were PM instead, would we still be griping? There has to be some perks to being leader of the country after all... do people complain if the president of the US throws the first pitch in baseball? Or gets to show up to the game ahead of everyone else? No...

Are we that cheap?

We're frugal, not cheap - and the Tories are supposed to be the epitome of frugality, hence why it sticks in the craw.

I can't imagine any other country in the world complaining that the leader of their country should get to the back of the line. It's absurd. Hell, police officers get free food in drive throughs, I'm sure the least we can do is give front row seats to our nation's leader in our country's most beloved sport. I think this is more of an attack because people don't like Harper, rather than the actual act itself.
