I could easily say that Christianity is Idolatry with even better, more accurate and relevant, references. Muslims have done away with the Idols that were "uncovered in the 40's," but there are branches of Christianity today that still have idols. The Catholic Church for example. Protestants can't claim that their religion is somehow pure just because they've done away with the crucefix and just retained the cross. They're still based, quite clearly, on an Idolatry-based religion. One that fused worship of Bachus, the god of wine, Apollo, the god of the sun, and Mithras the fertility god was born on December 25'th and raised from the dead.

Fundamentalist Christians tend to avoid the subject. It's a sort of intellectual dishonesty.
Also--obviously--hypocrisy. See, the thing about a fundamentalist is that in their mind they cannot accept anything contradictory to what they believe. They will rail and parade point after point against whatever they oppose, all the while ignoring and refusing to face the fact that a vast variety of their points could be applied to their own cause as well. They don't care, they don't want to listen, because to them, it doesn't matter. They are Right and we are Wrong, and that is all there is to it.

Which I think backs up what I personaly say: Whether or not God is real; wheather or not Jesus was our savior, a large portion of the Bible is made up or changed. I personally think that the New Testament is different because the Old Testament writers had all died, and the new people believed that God wasn't like that.
I believe that the Bible is opinion. And as with all opinions, it should not be taken as fact. If the opinion is convincing to you, you may believe it. But I may choose not to. Every single person has his or her indevidual own choice to believe or disbelieve that opinion.
WWJB. Who would Jesus bomb?
WWBBD? What would Brian Boitano do?
You and Muhammad have something in common... You both rejected Jesus- God Himself came down from heaven and lived a perfect life, and then died for your sins.
Which means that because you aren't a Chistian, you must be a vindictive evil doer.
Also:
1)"God Himslef" did not come down. If I remember correctly, God gave up his only son. That's not God Himself.
2)I'm not sure if being nailed to a cross after being betrayed; knowing most of your life that you will be is a perfect life, but hey, that's just me.
Want a laugh? Look through the "Why Chick Trackts Get Read" section.
Your tracts planted the seed that led me to Christ. I was saved after seeing tons of tracts laying all over Wal-Mart while working, shopping, etc.
I found a Chick tract in a phone booth and was saved a short time later, along with my wife-to-be.
I trust everything I see in a phone booth, too!
I was shaken back into the fear of the Lord from my backslidden state by THIS WAS YOUR LIFE! that I found on my seat in a subway train.
Same with subways!
By the way, I never got why people LIKE to fear God. Maybe it's because I was raised Protestant. Crazy Protestants actually paying attention to the whole "forgiveness" thing.
I was handed some of your tracts. At first, I rejected the message as being too naïve and simplistic! But I could not bring myself to throw them away, instead keeping them and bringing them out a few times a year just to have a good laugh. But six years ago, I received Jesus as Lord and Savior, your tracts having played a big part!
They are a good laugh, I admit that.

Maybe not, but there are tens of millions of christians out there, many in the US, many elsewhere, whose views are broadly in line with those expressed above. The same goes for followers of every other major religion - islam in particular, hinduism, etc. It seems the moment a religion becomes influential, it is split by people deciding that their interpretation should hold sway. The way I knew the archetype was as "the Giver of the Gift", the Gift being light/fire/insight/knowledge. But I could spot right away that this archetype was perhaps best remembered popularly as the Titan, Prometheus.

I love the one about evolution where he claims that the fact that the Great Barrier reef is 4200 years old and the oldest living tree is about 4300 proves that a) the world could not possibly be more than a few thousand years old, and b) that their age (assuming he has the figures right) proves that Noah's flood occurred at that time. Should I point out that obvious logical fallacy in that, or would someone else like to?

I wish more people would steal his cartoons and rewrite/re-edit them for humourous purposes. I'd link in to my own re-edit (Where's My Toilet Paper, Damnit?), but I've kinda already done that one to death on these fora already.
Tell you what, if anyone wants the link to a SubGenius Chick parody, TG me, and I'll eventually get around to sending 'em to you.
There are some brilliant ones but Chick's lawyers tend to swoop down on them pretty fast.
There used to be a hilarious Cthulhu one... I believe i have the last surviving copy in the world ;)

One that fused worship of Bachus, the god of wine, Apollo, the god of the sun, and Mithras the fertility god was born on December 25'th and raised from the dead.
I'm not quite sure how the cross is any more idolitrous than any symbol. We don't worship the cross, we worship the person who was on it and what he did. He could have died in any other fashion.
Jack Chick knows as much about Christianity as he does about Islam.
The day his printing press burns to the ground will be a happy one for all people of faith

I love how Chick manages to get Catholicism in his tirade against Islam.
He so hates the Catholics. More so than any other religion.
I haven't read to the end of this thread, so I might be repeating. But Battle-Axe Ministries, which is some branch of the whole Chick Dynasty somehow, makes the connection clear in a bunch of their books.
In a nutshell, the early Catholic Church, evil anti-Christians that they are, used subversion, devil summoning, and some other evil hoodoo to CREATE ISLAM, in order that it would be a scourge to real Christians in its' infancy, and be a convenient paper tiger in its senescence for the evil Catholics to rally against, in order to prove their "Christianity" and willingness to defend their deluded flocks against "the pagan threat".
So much for keeping it light, JuNii.
*sigh*
yeah, a hard task in any religious baised thread...

Are there actually people who read Jack Chick and take it seriously?
Sad to say, yes. In Illinois and Indiana, anyhow.
One of them was in a graduate class of mine. Like myself, he intends to become a high-school teacher. Not ill-educated, not young and inexperienced either. Just accepting of a world-view that made him sound completely crazy and at odds with damn near everything I consider civilized.
Oh, and he was completely convinced everyone else, outside of his church, was deluded or stupid.
And he told us this. Often in the midst of presentations that were ostensibly about other things.
His church was in line with everything Chick/BattleAxe stand for. He often would get into impassioned arguments with everyone, including other Protestants, and call them idolators and pagans.
Yep, he was a real Georgia peach...
Well, he seems to like the Jews.
Overly so.
Check this cartoon out:
Love the Jews (http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/1000/1000_01.asp)
Apparently every bad thing that has ever happened in the history of the World is directly attributible to not giving the Jews what they want.
Maybe we shouldn't though. They'll just get spoilt rotten if we cave into them every time.Germany hasn't been a catholic nation since before the 30 years War. And I doubt Hitler ever took orders from the Vatican... Good grief, this man is not only a rabid fundamentalist madman, he's a historical revisionist...

Not sure what convinced him to release this on the same day:
http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/1031/1031_01.asp?wpc=1031_01.asp&wpp=a
Described as "The message of "Allah Had No Son" redrawn for black readers."
Not sure if he is running out of ideas and rehashing ideas quite explicity or if an image consultant persuaded him is was a good idea.

What made you see the light?
What made me stop being a religious fundie? I grew up. My few years of real religious zeal (from 13 to about 16) were part of the typical teenage anger at the world. I just found a group that gave me a "reason" for my anger. Eventually I came to find the whole thing (religion) to be rather silly.

I seemed to do things kinda backwards. As a teenager I was a neo-con religious zealot über-patriot. I spend 4 years in the Army and I'm an agnostic neo-secessionist social democrat.
