Personally, I don't care much for the flags of the Seychelles or the Central African Republic, but that's just a matter of taste. The important thing is that they mean something to the people of those countries.

Indeed I don't. They're all practically the same.

Pretty much anywhere that just has plain old vertical/horizontal stripes. t's just so dull! I mean at least Union Jack has a little variation, and the US has the stars (otherwise that'd be pretty dull too).

aw, I like Libya's flag. It's nice and simple, and very traditional. The single colour flag has a very long tradition in Arab heraldry/symbolism. The worst national flag in my opinion is... probly the US. I mean, I could probably find worse ones, but for such a prominent country it has no excuse for such a busy and confusing flag. 50 stars?! what is that?! Its just symbolic overkill. We already know there's 50 states. And the stripes, way too many stripes. I think they should just use 3, maybe 4 stripes, and just one star. Much simpler.

I simply don't like the flag. I think the stars are lame and apart from that, they're just boring stripes. And it doesn't have anything to do with making a dig at America.

The one that galls me the most is Australia's, where I was born and now live. It's got someone else's flag in the corner. Like the southern cross though.

But the United States is the best:

White = Purity
Blue = Justice
Red = Blood shed in the defense of the United States.

I don't think I can find one more boring than the plain green Libya flag, but the Korean flag always makes me think "Pepsi".

For sheer ugliness of colour coding, all the tricolour flags with red, white and blue. Add one demerit per star or dot or other superfluousness.

The two red sections represent each ocean, referring to Canada's motto, A Mari usque ad Mare (From sea to sea).

Not the swedish one. It has no meaning at all. A king in the 16th century brought the colours from his duchy, then put them on the danish one. No story behind it, though some claim that a 12th century king saw a yellow cross in the sky when he was in Finland during a crusade(!), took it as a sign from god and used it for his army. Apparently, that's not true, but it would have been a lot more interesting...

Edit: Apparently Wilmington, Delaware has a similar one to remember the colony New Sweden.

Edit again: They also seem to have things named after swedish cities... nad a church called Old Swedes Church.

I have to say I do not like flag of norway... I don't know why... ah well as far as the bestest flags go I think both Albania and Wales have pretty cool flags but for me you cannot beat that of FYR Macedonia.

You say the same of Kazakhstan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Kazakhstan) but there are two perfect matching colors and the pattern is visible, repeating, and simpler than one would think. All the Central Asian states have amazing flags, except Turkmenistan.

And Belize's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Belize) sucks. It reminds me of 2/3 of the American states' horrible flags (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flags_of_the_U.S._states). The nation's Coat of Arms isn't a flag people!

From a more or less unbiased Canadian perspective, I do like the American flag. While the stars are a bit busy, I like them. While I do like the American flag as is, I have to admit that the earlier flags, from when there were less states in the union, look a bit better. Less busy, in any case, like this 15 star flag (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:US_flag_15_stars.svg) from 1795, and this 20 star flag (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:US_flag_20_stars.svg) from 1818.

As for my least favourite? Well, they don't use it anymore, but before they replaced it, the Rwandan flag (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Flag_Rwanda_1962.svg) was pretty awful. It had a big giant R in the middle to remind you of what country it was for.

But, like, virtually every state has it's seal on a blue background.

Gotta love the simplicity/naivity of it.

(Actually the Green symbolises Nationalism (or Catholicism in the mid 1800's), the Orange symbolises Unionism (or Protestantism in the mid 1800's) and the white is indeed peace between the two groups.)

I think that this isn't really a knock on the flag as much as it is on Bush.

And by the way, the Middle East has never liked the US. I'm not saying that Bush helped our relations there, but they sucked before he got into office. It's an ideological conflict.

Turkmenistan. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Turkmenistan) Like anyone is ever going to get close enough to see those five insane patterns. You say the same of Kazakhstan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Kazakhstan) but there are two perfect matching colors and the pattern is visible, repeating, and simpler than one would think. All the Central Asian states have amazing flags, except Turkmenistan.

And Belize's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Belize) sucks. It reminds me of 2/3 of the American states' horrible flags (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flags_of_the_U.S._states). The nation's Coat of Arms isn't a flag people!

I've always like the Maryland flag. It looks like something you'd see at a renaissance fair. It goes very well with their state sport, which is a form of jousting.

And as was said earlier, many state flags are terrible. I have a very large (5ft by 15 ft) state flag up on my wall, but I recognize that it looks terrible.

I really don't like the Armenian flag (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Flag_of_Armenia.svg). The colours clash, and the layout is boring.

as for america, the only president who didn't make me ashaimed of living in it was carter, (though jfk did a better job as president in most ways), and even he, well i'm sure there are things about his presidency i don't know and would find fault with if i did.

my own flag is green and brown, and the turquoise of the sky and the pumpkin orange of the sun, all representing nature's diversity as does even the monadic theme worked into it. being the things i believe in.

I'm surprised a lot of people like the U.S. flag. I thought it was generally perceived as ugly. I have mixed feelings on it. To me the flag looks really nice if the blue is a dark navy blue and the red is more of a maroon-ish color.

Hate to say it, but purely in terms of design, my favorite flag is the German flag during WWII (especially the naval flag). Catches the eye. Simple but powerful looking. The current German flag which some of you dislike is kind of boring. I always thought it would be nice if Germany somehow incorporated the iron cross in their flag.

I am a Brittish flag fan....that and jamaica. I Love the way they did their flag lol. Cool Runnin did a lot to help me out with that :D.

German flag is sexy as hell. Red, white and blue stripes are generally pretty common (Serbia, Netherlands, France, etc) and relatively look the same.

In the Irish flag, green symbolises the South, that is the Republic, white symbolises our commitment to peace, neutrality and anti-imperialism, and orange symbolises the North which we have not forgotten as a part of our country.



I thought the orange bit was supposed to be gold (even though it is clearly an orange colour) because the Irish never liked the colour orange since William of Orange's little quest of Irishman butchering. Though that's probably just some drunken Irishman's personal opinion.

I always think that a national flag should be simple, because basically every person belonging to that nation shouldn't have to be an artist to be able to draw it. Saying that, I do really like the New Zealand flag.

I have to say I do not like flag of norway... I don't know why... ah well as far as the bestest flags go I think both Albania and Wales have pretty cool flags but for me you cannot beat that of FYR Macedonia.
