Juvenile derogatory terms used by ideologists

I get really annoyed when commentators on either side of the political spectrum (although i find it's often those on the right) use childish insults to describe their ideological opponents. Maybe it's just a characteristic of the right in Australia, but i see nothing wrong with loving chardonnay or lattes!
I am personally placed on the left (small l liberal), latte is my choice of coffee and i don't particularly like chardonnay.

I consider myself pretty left wing (I vote Green), and I like short blacks (espresso) and cab sav or shiraz. Never had much of a liking for Chardonnay & lattes are just too milky.
I'm left wing and i'll drink anything.

In all honesty, it has more to do with them being in charge right now and therefore controling the debate-there's just more of them on the field so it seems like it comes from them more. But I find myself embarrassed when people I otherwise agree with just hurl bs like that-though in honesty I can occasionally get lazy with it...

Hm.. I've never tried wine of any kind, but I don't think it'd affect my politics much.. :p
As for coffee, I prefer it black or with a couple tablespoons of salt.. or on rare occasion, a cinnamon stick.

it probably does have to do with who is in power at the moment, but "Typical anti-Howard garabage from the trendy, lefty, chardonnay sipping, darlinghurst latte set " is used on the opinions pages of the newspapers pretty regularly in general.
Are there any commonly used stupid insults for people on the right? Nothing springs to mind at the moment...?

The right may often label the left as chardonnay-lovers, The left regularly and predictably smears anyone who doesn't slavishly adhere to the leftist agenda as RacistSexistHomophobe, NaziNaziNaziNaziNazi, BigotBigotBigotBigotBigot and WantsToPoisonTheWaterAndKillLittleOldLadies. And God forbid if you ever question their "patriotism".

I'm left and I can't stand lattes. Coffee should be drunk only if it's good and if it's good, it should only be drunk black and strong. Lattes, mochas, capucinos...all that is just froth to disguise the taste of below average coffee.
I do Chardonay though.

I don't know about Australia, but here in the states it would be "Right wing, NASCAR watching, lite beer swilling, big pick-up driving, professional wrestling watching, gun hugging, belly scrathers."

I do hate that whole pretentious darlinghurst/balmain/surryhills/paddington/newtown elitist homo/metrosexual lefty clique. However I never noticed the left/right divide to be as apparent as it is in the US. Mainly because the twomajor parties aren't all that different. In relation to each other, the ALP and the Libs are left and right respectably. However on an objective scale both parties are centrist. Democrats too. Actually, everyone who reads this, vote democrats. I want them to be a real party again. Bring back the 3 party system! I am sick of this seppo two-party crap.

Some of us are so left-wing, we still call it café au lait. :p
Found this while trying to look up the difference. I knew there was one but couldn't remember:
"I swear, I despair of ever finding a decent cup of coffee in Los Angeles.
The scenario inevitably goes like this:
Chuck (to the coffeehouse waitor): "I'd like a cafe au lait, please."
Waitor (puzzled, scanning the menu): "Oh okay, a latte."
Chuck (annoyed): "No, I didn't ask for a latte, I asked for cafe au lait."
Waitor (standoffish): "Well, they're the same thing."
Chuck (seriously annoyed): "No no no, they're NOT the same thing. Cafe au lait is brewed coffee, preferably dark French roast with chicory, with half scalded -- NOT steamed -- milk, poured together from two pots. Cafe latte is a shot of nasty espresso dumped into a glass of steamed milk that's all froth."
Waitor (thinking): "Jesus, what's her problem ...""

I wish that Starbucks would just pick a language! Everytime I try to order in Italian, they seem puzzled, then yell "Venti!".

I love Starbucks but have always refused to use their terminology. Instead of saying Venti - I ask them to super-size it.

Hey, I'm pretty darn left-wing, and I watch pro wrestling! Granted, that's only to make fun of it, but I still watch it now and then. And I had a mosquito bite on my stomach last week, which I'm sure I scratched...does this mean I'm going to start turning into a Republican? Oh noooo! :p
To answer the actual question, I'm decidedly liberal, and I can't stand any form of coffee. Yuck. I'm not a big wine drinker, so I'm not sure if I've ever had chardonnay, but if I did, I'd probably find it acceptable but not something to seek out, since that's how I feel about most wines.

Y'know I think it is pretty clear that the comment is aimed at the group that it ridicules. That whole darlinghurst/surry hills/newtown/paddington/balmain pretentious, elitist, artsy, metro/homo, psuedo-intellectual clique. I can't stand them either. They are so... ... you just want to punch them in the face and say "WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE FOOLING!" So pretentious... Personally I am a center/right libertarian (to classify as accurately as possible 0/-6 on the politcal spectrum).
