Buy anything awesome lately?

I haven't even been up two hours and the mailman already brought me two packages:

1) the three books that were on sale at Amazon and that I wanted to have anyway and that I ordered not even two days ago.

2) the pretty (http://img.ferra.ru/pubimages/70252.jpg), pretty (http://www.esato.com/gfx/phones/gallery/q59t90h286.jpg) new cell phone I bought used and really cheap on eBay.

My consumerist hankering for the day has been satisfied, thank you very much.

So, did you buy anything awesome lately?

I might add a poll of some sort, if I don't get too sidetracked by playing with my new cell phone. Did I mention how pretty (http://www.mobilegazette.com/images/siemens-sf65-v.jpg) it is? :p

Yes you did mention how pretty your new phone is and I like it:)

Things I've bought recently are:

Also a Chinese antique silver statue and an exorcist display signed by Linda Blair!

That's it though, I haven't made any major purchases for a while.

In my current condition if I buy anything that's not food (or *(#&$(#^$ parking tickets...) it's a bad idea...

Though I did manage to replace some old ska cover cds that I listened to a lot back when I was a projectionist that I kind of missed, so now I have again the kick ass ska covers like Sanford and Son Theme and Brown Eyed Girl (I love that song. Somehow I've never dated a brown eyed girl to spread that cheese all over the place...)

I also picked up a book by Karel Capek that I enjoyed like I haven't enjoyed in a really long time. War With the Newts, it was really fucking cool. I'm going to have to get that compilation of plays that I balked on getting at the same time.

Other than that I bought a bunch of crap for work that makes me feel like a dork for having, like a Leatherman Wave and LED flashlight. Now I'm that lame-o with steel toe boots, a flashlight, and a multi-tool. Those and my voltage detector have made me look like a super hero on the job but out of the job they make me feel like a dork.

Sad thing is the next things I'll buy will probably be similar. Thinking about getting a boom-pole and shotgun mic so I can get work as a boom operator (I don't need those to get hired, just a demonstration of intent, sort of.)

Though I think before that I might pick up a pro-8mm camera because I'm starting to fall in love with the look you get out of those things. But then I also have to get a miniDV mule camera because a miniDV deck, for some reason, would be three times as expensive and I need to log and capture with something.

But right now none of those thing provide nurishment, so...

OH! The last time I was flush I got a nice piece of glass, a green pipe with nice chamber. I liked that thing, but I haven't been able to afford anything to put in it for a while. Long run coming up, so maybe...probably not...

Yes, because imagine the slight I would have taken over the comparative value of the Swedish Krona vis-à-vis other currencies, had you not mentioned that none was intended? ;)

A weak Krona happens to be beneficial to our heavily export-oriented economy, which is why the drooping value of the dollar (the US being if not the major, then one of our major trade partners) has been a small cause for concern among the pundits.

For what it's worth (oooh, pun), I bought the router at a lower price than that of the link.

It is actually the English word "handy". Or "Handy", in German. :p
I always thought it derived from it being "handy", as in useful and nifty to have a phone that you could carry around, but that's just because I'm stupid. It really derives from "handheld", which obviously makes a lot more sense.
It's a bit retarded, though, that we're actually using an English word that doesn't even exist as such in English.

The long name in German would be Mobiltelefon (mobile phone), but nobody says that.

Yep, although it's pronouced "Hendy", kind of like some of their other words which take their pronunciation from 50's English.

Only problem now is that
1) there are several streets of that name in the city and it is a pretty big city after all (hence why Laerod can read this and still not find me, hehehe).
2) there even is a whole neighborhood called Siemensstadt (Siemens city) because the original Siemens headquarters & factories were located there.
3) I'd have to be wasted enough to have forgotten where I live yet still be able to remember that whereever it may be, it says so on my phone.

Hey, that's cool... I actually was an account manager for Nortel, which is a big competitor to Siemens. Being an immature little brat with a dirty mind, I would always snicker when my competition for an account was Siemens. It gave me an extra shot of confidence.

If you are not a native English speaker, you may not understand why, so I'll explain... (please don't ban me for this, mods -- it seems the joke wasn't understood).

I'll spell it out as frankly as possible without being too frank: "semen" is the medical (and commonly used) term for the stuff that comes out of a man at the end of sex. And it's pronounced exactly the same as the company. Why the company never came up with an alternative business name for the US and UK, I'll never understand.

"Semen" is a medical term that is pronounced the same way in English as the company. Here's an explanation.

I just got a package from Ebay (okay a seller on ebay) yesterday in the mail. I bought a Tupperware citrus peeler. (okay a dozen of them) I got them for a penny and then $1 for shipping.

They are highly coveted around here, you can't get one unless you sign up for selling Tupperware and then sell $300 worth of product. I am keeping 5 for myself, 4 for the house, and one for my purse (I can eat oranges on the run now!!! which is great since I can't have fast food and also get very sick if my blood sugar drops)

They look like this,

They've still got it & Subey's have a reputation for being pretty tough. They didn't do any serious off-roading, but it coped pretty well with the dirt & sand roads they went on. The raised ride height & low range gears actually make a real difference. It's a good compromise for highway travelling, but also being able to get to places that 90% of people can't or won't attempt. You wouldn't want to try & cross the Gibson or Great Sandy Desert in it though.

Since I move around a lot I keep the amount of extra crap that I own to a bare minimum.

The last few things that I've bought recently are

100 rounds of 7.62x39

Hotel and ferry tickets for a vacation to Mackinack Island and Sault Sainte Marie (Yay!)

A bar of Ritter Sport, which I hadn't seen in about 4 years.

I just got back from the health food store and guess what I found?!

Gluten free waffle cones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so, that's awesome I missed Ice cream cones, I am going to take them to the kids at the support group Tuesday night, I am sure that a lot of them have never had an ice cream cone and the rest of us really miss them :D

I'd call it harrowing, not seeing Ritter Sport for years. I love those. Did you know their labels are in German in Sweden? Kooky as well as delicious.

I lived on that stuff (and kebabs) when I was over there. I happened to be walking through Meijer's (a Michigan based Walmart type store) and saw they had 4 different types of Ritter Sport. Now, if only they had Jakobs I'd be content.

Aw, poor Fass. When I was in the US, the two brands of foreign (i.e. edible ;)) chocolate they had in my supermarket ("Mr. D's", IIRC) were always Lindt (mmmmhhhh, but too expensive for everyday indulgence) and Ritter Sport.

Oh, and "Jakobs" as in the coffee??

Yep. I get Tchibo right now, but I prefer Jakobs. When I moved to Colorado they had Jakobs at the Army post where I was stationed, but I'm now a civilian, and the nearest real military base is in Kentucky, so even if I drove down there to buy a stash, they wouldn't let me in.

Seriously - I'm not a coffee drinker, I guess I just never noticed, but is there really that big of a difference between simple roasted ground coffee?

There really is quite a bit of difference between coffees. I believe main differences between most American coffees and German ones is that the American ones have chicory in them. What I do know for certain is that German coffees like Jakobs or Tchibo can be made much, much stronger without becoming intolerably bitter.
