anyone know what that announcement from 'keith (operations manager)' means? i'm assuming it's something worthy of attention seeing as i've never seen one before but i don't speak computer bollocks so i don't know what the announcement is announcing.

I noticed the same thing about baseball game recaps today.
If you don't know much about baseball, what does this mean to you:
On a 2-0 count, he roped a double into right, clearing the bases.

With two strikes and no balls he hit the ball to right field, enough to get him to second base and all runners on base where able to come home, or score.
Sweet crap why do I know that? I hate baseball...

Ping is a measurement (in milliseconds) of how long a connection takes to pass a packet of data. A high ping is experienced as (in this case) the Jolt page taking a long time to refresh. Keith is saying it's PIPEX's fault.
Got that? It's slow, they know. Heads are being banged together.
Oh, and if jolt dissappears altogether, that would be a sign that one of the boffins is fiddling with something, and just broke it ;)
EDIT: PIPEX and Nildram are UK service providers. No problem from here, better than average even.

I had the first bit, about the whole ping rate and packet loss malarky, but he lost me with the lon1 stuff or whatever it was in the second paragraph. Never having studied IT formally I've had to pick stuff up as it comes, and mainly it comes from online gaming lol, so I know only basic stuff and stuff pertinent to gaming (such as ping rates :D)
Still, when I frequent a forum inhabited by a large number of computer-knowledgeable people, not to menion hanging around with a bunch of them, I don't really need to know much, just the right people. See, the net's influence, strong here is, but laziness' influence, far stronger is...
