Just curious about overall internet speeds and speeds in another countries. I heard that speeds in South Korea and Japan are like.. wow.. so, anyone from there could enlighten me on the speed?
We're talking about downstream here. So, to get started, my speed is 4M, but the most you can find in Portugal is 20M (i guess), what about you?

Just because we can't respond for a minute because we have to wait for the page to load doesn't mean we're slow. It only means our internet connection is.

I think we're still on a paired line or something so we're stuck with this until Telstra does something.

ZOMG, man...

Just through the simple use of context clues, when he was referring to you as being slow, he was really just talking about your internet speed. Doof.

All you had to do was continue the analogy:

1. Internet = superhighway
2. You're "merging" onto the superhighway, where "merging" is "getting online."
3. If you merge onto the superhighway with a razor scooter or if you have blocks of concrete (or whatever it was) glued to your feet AND are walking on the highway, then he means you are slow.

*This is where you screwed up*

4. All in all: scooter/concrete = slow connection.
NOT scooter/concrete = physically slow.

560.2 kilobits per second

I have a 2.5 Megabit connection. Although, because of my wireless, my rate will quickly plunge to about 50% of its theoretical speed. I only need to use wireless with Windows because it cannot keep my eth connection running. So basically Windows-slow, Linux-fast.

Yeah, and there's another problem. If I had a 768 mbit connection, I wouldn't fit into any of the catagories either. In fact, there's a gap between each of the catagories.
I've got 512, as it happens. But 768's do exist, at least in Australia.

EDIT: for using a text forum, ping matters a lot more to me than raw speed. I'm getting ~320 ms just now, which is fine. That announcement from keith suggests some UK users have a problem about now. Anyone?

When I first hit the internet (well, BBS's), I was cruising at a super-sexy 2400 baud. I really envied those rich bastards with their 9600. Actually, I take that back. My Commodore64 had a 300 baud modem, but it didn't work right.

Currently at work, however, I can cruise at 1Gbps. Mmm... speed...

Hmm.. There has to be a ripe market for youth hostels in Stockholm. With prices like that, students & temporaries must be bleeding & homeless. That'd also save both of us from finding new jobs.
