WC: What results would you have preferred?

I would have liked the final to be Argentina-Brazil, with Argentina taking it.

I would have preferred England to win.

But the final should be pretty interesting the way it's turned out. It makes you wonder whether the cup will ever be won by a new team, though. In 80 odd years, only 7 sides; will anyone else ever break into the club?

Australia to win the World Cup.

I know it wasn't going to happen, but it's what I would have liked.

I would have liked to see Cote d'Ivoire progress out of the group stage. They played some really good football & were terribly unlucky to have drawn the group that included Holland & Argentina.

I'd have preferred some crazy bunch of Irish hooligans storming the field and taking it because they had the moxie to eat the hearts of everyone else.

Either that, or the winner of American Idol, Taylor Hicks, goes on a shooting spree and claims victory for himself.

If nothing else, at least it would be different.

US and Japan with Japan winning 7 - 0!

6, if you disregard West Germany's wins.

I wasnt aware that the final results were in yet. Who won? It may be who I wouldve hoped for anyway.

Final game and third place game still to be played, but we know how it ends already.

Does France have to be second? Can't they get 5th or 157th?

It's down to the final four. Italy and France in the final, Portugal and Germany in the third place game. France can only come first or second.

I would have preferred Ecuador to beat England, Ivory Coast to qualify instead of the Netherlands (then beat Portugal), Brazil to play properly, Australia to get an upset win over Italy and then losing to Germany in the Semis.
Then Germany beating Brazil in the Final.

I'd have liked Switzerland to beat Ukraine. I imagine the Swiss would have put up a better fight against Italy than Ukraine did. Also, Holland to beat Portugal and Ghana to have beaten Brazil in the last 16. Maybe Argentina to have beaten Germany in the quarter finals as well.

Okay, now Im curious -- why does a Japanese person hate the French?

Why does someone who doesn't want anyone speaking ill of the dead (no matter WHAT they did in life) resort to hating anything?

Well, as long as we're fantasizing...

A complete underdog upstart from Micronesia, Vanuatu, The Seychelles or Mauritius roars out of obscurity to make the semis after shocking the cleats off of some sides like Italy, Brazil or the Dutch. They play, say, Germany to a valiant tie that ends up with PKs, and we all know who wins WC matches on PKs. The Germans then go on to face France in the final, after the Tricolor survives a scare from Greece in their semi.

France and Germany play to a 3-3 tie, with both sides' third goals happening in overtime.

It takes two rounds of PKs, but Germany pulls it off and both sides collapse from exhaustion and nervous tension.

The Greeks are too appreciative of the Seychelles' miraculous effort to even stage the 3rd place match, gleefully concede and party with them until sunrise, celebrating their fantastic effort.

And then, of course, Ann Coulter fellates Bill O-Lie-ly on Fox and everyone gets juuuust drunk enough to get blissfully and willingly laid, all the world's missiles turn to giant baguettes, bullets to bratwursts, and nobody goes hungry again.

Sometimes it's fun to let the machinations of imagination run wild.

NOW, BACK IN YOUR CAGE, YOU TROUBLEMAKER! *whip-CRACK*

There, there. You'll get over it.

I remember in 1994 when Bulgaria beat Germany, I was pretty damn angry too. Moreso at Mr. Letchkov of course, and at Bodo Illgner than at the rest of the team, but still.

I got over it after a few days, but I was just as upset and cranky as you are right now.

Of course, I was nine years old then...

The final should have been angola vs australia, but the god's did not allow this :P

I'd liked portugal to go to the final, then losing against the germs (aka the germans) since we rock, but we havent been playing much lately, and germany diserved to win

but the gods of football smiled to the other side :( damn!

ps: Though i wouldn't be very upset losing a final to germany, now i want third place ~.~

I would have liked England to have played the ball on the ground, then we would have won the cup.

I would have liked Mexico to go further but luck of the draw, Germany to win the cup against a team that doesn't dive a lot. Would have liked Trinidad, Ivory Coast to have got a win somewhere along the line.
