What Song or songs would you consider to be on the soundtrack to your life & why?

The main tracks for me are:

Misunderstood - by pink - cuz basically I was that girl in school
"Never win first place, I dont support the team, I cant direction & my socks are never clean" (Minus the sock thing)

True Colours - Cindy Lauper, & Fix You by coldplay: reminds of the best and worst time of my life to date

Learning to Fly - Tom Petty - kinda of how i felt when i left home for the first time

.. i'm sure there are the others, I think my personal soundtrack would be a double almbum, but they are the three that come to mind first.

What About You?

Dozens, literally.
Most have been oriented around my demise, but i suspect that a lot of Thomas Newman's music would be apt.
With a little Liquid Tension Experiment.
And Eric Serra.
Peppered with Monty Python.
Also Tweaker.

That's pretty broad, i realize, but i'll specify later, i guess.
I will throw in "Liar" from Rollins Band and
"Beautiful" and "Longing" from Drown.
"I Can See Now" from Dead Can Dance.

Really - there's so many.

Oh yeah - Yoko Kanno - Voices.
The a capella is beautiful, all versions are.
I'd have to mention that one.

I don't have any sound tracks, but I've had lots of weird and wonderful experiences with music -- especially classical. For example, I was with a woman in her kitchen while she had some classical music playing; at the same time she was relating to me a detailed plot summary of some movie. When her narrative reached some climatic point, so did the music -- there was definetly some correspondemce between the music and her narration. Anyway, I've noticed in various situations quite often. It is quite noetic
when the two pendulams start to swing in unison.

Hmm, I do have favourite songs, but not really so many deeply siginificant songs for a specific time in my life.

The only ones coming to mind right now are F.E.E.L.I.N.G.C.A.L.L.E.D.L.O.V.E by Pulp, which kinda echoed some aspects of a couple of relationships a few years ago, and, these days, Mad World by Michael Andrews feat. Gary Jules. I'm not really as depressed as to say that the dreams in which I'm dying are the best I ever had :p, but something about the general melancholy and weirdness of that song really strikes a chord at the moment. Also, it's an extraordinarily beautiful song, so it might be just that.

Just about anything dark and depressing or something about failure fits perfectly within my life right now.

Of the top of my head the following tracks would have to feature on my life soundtrack:

Nothing - Neophobia
God Hates Us All - Slayer
I'm Only Happy When It Rains - Garbage
Cementary Gates - Pantera

I guess also
Mad World by Michael Andrews feat. Gary Jules.:(

I really don't like that version of the song. The original (by Tears for Fears) manages to convey the same melancholy in the words despite the bouncy and rather jolly 80s synths that back them, and the Gary Jules version somehow makes the words empty because of the funereal music.

I'd probably include Green Day, Rammstein, Placebo, Tool, Duke Spirit, Mogwai, 65daysofstatic and plenty more in a soundtrack of my life. Possibly Tom McRae as well.

Meh, I disagree. The extra melancholy makes it stand out all the more IMO.

Actually, I heard another version of it that was even better than the Gary Jules one. Buggered if I can find it though, or even remember who did it. Sigh.

Some people think Radiohead make suicidal music...

The whole lemming suicide thing is actually a result of a time traveller playing a prank on them by taking Gery Jules' Mad World back to the first ever lemming nest(?...do they live in nests...I don't know) and playing it on a loop to them. Now they kill themselves because of an ancestral memory of the song.

Parisienne Walkways - Gary Moore ....

Reminds me of one of my most relaxed and happy holidays.
Heard that whilst relaxing in a small boat on the shore of a sea alone,
during my girlfriend and another fellow were scanning the surrounding area for some fresh beer :D

Sad, but it's the only song coming into my mind now, relating to a specific situation.
Funny, because this situation is mostly about beer :)

The entire "A Grand don't come for free" album by the Streets.

Also Lily Allen's "LDN (http://theshoyshoyboy.blogspot.com/2006/05/lily-allen-ldn-video.html)", Emiliana Torrini's "Sunny Road (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixX9V-Hy_yc&search=sunny%20road)", Samy Deluxe's "Weck mich auf (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIrrURh8urk&search=samy%20deluxe)". Yay! :fluffle:

I like it. Even though I like the new one even better (of course that's also the one I'm more used to, so that's a bit unfair). I think his voice is a mix between Michael Stipe, Kurt Cobain and some generic Brit Pop mixed in and it's kind of weird to hear the song like that. The (strangely scratchy) cello and especially the guitars were way too prominent for my taste and made for a way too driving rhythm, imho (but maybe that was just the recording or even just the sound on my laptop).
But still - if I didn't know the Gary Jules one, that would have been my favourite. I'll definitely save the link - who knows, maybe there are dozens more versions out there that can one day fill my hypothetical "I feel so sad and woozy" IPod playlist. :p

Birth to age 7: Beach Boys, bubblegum rock, and some Patty Larkin thrown in for flavor.
Age 7 to 12: The Donnas, and other assorted brat punk/rock.
Age 12 to 18: Nirvana. Maybe some NIN for those barely-pubescent nights at home. Ahh, angst.
Age 18 to present: Bitter, unfulfilled indy punk and metal. Preferably by local bands who will never, ever get signed.

Two rights make it too wrong
I fought to save us
but the pull was just too strong
You dug your heals in
I beat your heart black & blue
You loved to hate me loving you
Even though you loved me too

You tempted and tormented me
Built me up to fall
Paraded us around for all the world to see
You lured and assured me
Took me from another man
I love to hate me loving you
In as many ways as I can

this is in now way relevant to anything - just wanted to post it

Lol, you're getting ever more off-base. You're talking about a girl who's not only notorious for hardly ever even switching on and actually using her cell phone unless she deigns it to be of importance but who has also been using this (http://imgs.idnes.cz/telefony/A010911_SIEMENS_ME45-ZEPREDU_N.JPG) very basic cell phone handed down to her by a friend for a few months, after years of being the last person on the planet to still use one of these (http://www.itwissen.info/media/lex_pics/small/cc30f03.png). Now the handed-down one has been dropped on the ground one too many times and I needed a new one. Well, almost needed... <.< And the story as to why exactly that pretty, pretty new one is effectively only costing me €40 would be too convoluted and full of my own special logic to tell it here. Not to mention the story that would have made it only €20 but failed due to circumstances outside my control. Thank your deity of choice for that. :p

Oh, lots and lots. Monty's Galaxy song, for starts. And my Thinking of P&P Mix. Mostly Incubus and Nirvana on that one. Lots of various classical pieces. Cantina Band. Can't forget that one. And Cantina Band #2, of course.

Damn, sounds a lot like how the Bosstones did it when I saw them live last. Even sounds like Dicky's vocals.

Don't know the Bosstones, just d/l some of their stuff now. Any recommendations?

Try Last Dead Mouse and Don't Know How to Party. They're from the same album, though I'm blanking on the name of it right now. I've got a couple of discs. If you can't find stuff online, I can upload 'em to my computer and send some to you.

Everybody, we抳e got to fight for ourselves
Everybody, we抳e got to fight for ourselves
Everybody, we抳e got to fight for ourselves
Everybody, we抳e got to fight for ourselves
So many people, so many problems
There in the pretty city lights
Where we抳e thrown it all away
Well, if life is here before my eyes
Then I find it hard to see
How the methods that we抮e told to use
Are gonna make us free
Until then I say
Everybody, we抳e got to fight for ourselves
Everybody, we抳e got to fight for ourselves
All through the mystery,
All through the heartache
She抯 got the only single thing
That I抣l never throw away
Oh, if lightning strikes for a second time
Will you come and pull me through?
It抯 a battle that we all must make,
So show me what to do
And you said
Everybody, we抳e got to fight for ourselves
Everybody, we抳e got to fight for ourselves
Well there抯 a feeling growing that is in this land,
There抯 a soul that抯 burning and it抯 your hand
Everybody, we抳e got to fight for ourselves

I don't have any sound tracks, but I've had lots of weird and wonderful experiences with music -- especially classical. For example, I was with a woman in her kitchen while she had some classical music playing; at the same time she was relating to me a detailed plot summary of some movie. When her narrative reached some climatic point, so did the music -- there was definetly some correspondemce between the music and her narration. Anyway, I've noticed in various situations quite often. It is quite noetic
when the two pendulams start to swing in unison.
I walked into a room once right as the Intro to Carmina Burana was hitting one of those high, dramatic points.

anyway if anyone feels like a mad classical hit get a recording of Shoshtakovich Symphony no 10 ( 2nd movment is a musical portrayal of Stalin...it's pretty hardcore and insane) or Rachmaninov symph no 1 and 2...awesome still loads of fantasic music has come out of russia...

Wow, you know K's Choice? I had no idea they were known in the US. But then you've lived all over the place, if I recall correctly.
Do they even still exist? I saw them live ages ago and "Not an addict" still makes it on my "best of" lists every time (I don't really recall any of their other songs, just too long ago).

I love K's Choice! :) You're right though, they're not very well known here, and most people who have heard of them only know "Not An Addict". I was living in Europe when their second and third albums came out. Their third album, Cocoon Crash, was fairly popular when I was in high school in Belgium (they're a Belgian band, so that might have had something to do with it ;) ).

I haven't heard anything new from them in ages. I wouldn't be surprised if they've broken up, since a friend told me that Sarah Bettens, the lead singer, released a solo album last year.

I was living in Europe when their second and third albums came out. Their third album, Cocoon Crash, was farily popular when I was in high school in Belgium Hmm, now that you mention the name, I'm fairly sure I actually have that CD - buried under a good hour's worth of paperwork to be sorted, so I'm not really going to check right now. But yes, I'm pretty sure. I really should play it again some time. (they're a Belgian band, so that might have had something to do with it ;) ).Might have. :p Yeah, they're probably the biggest thing ever to come out of Belgium besides Pommes Frites. and, these days, Mad World by Michael Andrews feat. Gary Jules. I'm not really as depressed as to say that the dreams in which I'm dying are the best I ever had :p, but something about the general melancholy and weirdness of that song really strikes a chord at the moment. Also, it's an extraordinarily beautiful song, so it might be just that.Good choice, and agreed.
