Most people on this Forum will likely agree with me, in that Ken Lay, and most other corporate CEO's, should be in jail, and that people that are currently in jail for "ordinary" crimes, which are really caused by society, poverty, and corporate greed, should be released.
Should we re-examine who we jail in this society? Is it really moral to jail theives who are only stealing to provide for their family, like in the case of Hurricane Katrina, when greedy entreprenuers, who make profits off the backs of the poor, are left free to exploit?

What? You could atleast fake a bit of mercy. He didn't do anything to deserve death and the people who cheer this are ten times worse then him. Shameful!
Fake mercy? Why?
I didn't want him dead. I wanted him forced for the rest of his life to make money back for the American people, with no benefit to him, or credit given to him. His death is an escape from that.
I feel sorry for any family he's got. A wretched thieving bastard.... but someone's son, someone's kid. And regardless of what he was like to the outside world, to his parent(s?) he had something good, something worth remembering. Even if it was back when he was very, very young. Now their earthly link to that memory is gone.
But I'm not going to "fake mercy". What does that even mean?
People hate him because he annhiliated the quality of life of many, many people, people that he never met, simply because he thought he could get away with it. My dad went and saw The Smartest Guys In the Room. He and those who worked on his scheme with him absolutely typified the idea of "overwhelming arrogance".
Much like with Michael Milken (who never really had to suffer, nor ever showed any particular remorse either, for his part in the S&L scandals of the 80's), some of the people that were defrauded in this scheme are going to be poor. Not "set back", but poor. Losing the money they lost doesn't necessarily set them at some comfortable "starting-over point", it puts them into a financial dead zone.
If this seems overly vicious to you, try to remember, it's not "just money". At the scale these guys worked, the damage is enormous. [I]Lives are ruined.[/I ]
During his trial, he acted as if it was all perfectly fine, and that if Joe Anybody Investor was stupid enough to believe him, they deserved to be defrauded. He actually defended his his massive buying sprees with defrauded investors' money, as though his deception had "earned" him the money legitimately.
"Malignant self-regard". Also known as "malignant narcissism". People with this condition are often close to being sociopathic. We're not worse off for his exit.

I find it amusing that a man who wrecked thousands of lives and probably drove people to suicide because of the money he scammed them out of deserves a lighter punishment than someone who killed one person or raped one person in your mind.
I'm not saying any of them are good things to do, and I don't want any of them killed (I beleive in a thing called forgiveness and re-formation), but I think that it's Ironic that if I Beat someone near to death in the street I would get a harsher punishment than if I conned 20 people out of their life savings.

There really no such thing as "deserve to die." You're human, your faith is to die, whether you want it or not. What you mean to say is that he didn't deserve to be killed or put to death, but since that didn't happened and just died like any other human, then it's irrelevant.

Pensions
Thousands of Enron employees and investors lost their life savings, children's college funds, and pensions when Enron collapsed. A lawsuit on the behalf of a group of Enron's shareholders has been filed against Enron executives and directors. This lawsuit accuses twenty-nine of these executives and directors of insider trading and misleading the public.
Because the 401(k) plan is a defined contribution plan, there was no PBGC insurance and employees lost the money they invested in Enron stock. They could only sue those considered a fiduciary for breach of their duty of care based on ERISA Section 404.

You people are tacky and make me sick! I bet you people would not want people dancing when you die. Hell has a place for all those who mock the dead.
1. My funeral is going to be playing the most upbeat music around. If people aren't dancing, I'm going to have my corpse wired up so that it climbs out of the casket and yells, "FUCKING DANCE!"
2. You just said there is no hell.

I want an Irish wake, and I also want my body launched, whole, into space, with the Bluegrass tune "I'll Fly Away" playing. it would be totally apropriate.

if you want people to have a party to honor you that is one thing, but to celebrate because someone died because you are happy they are dead is another thing.
Its a figure of speech.

Money can be returned and replaced, your life can't.
If I ruin you financially to the point of destitution, you WILL lose your life by the simple fact that sustaining it no longer becomes feasible. If direct murder is the only validation for deserving death, Stalin, who as far as I know didn't directly kill the people in his gulags, and starved the people of Ukraine to death via deliberate famine, didn't deserve death either. He only took away the things they needed to survive.

Stalin tortured people. The government can and should help people get their money back, they can't breathe life into you.

Some of you really need to stop putting words in my mouth. I didnt say I wanted him to die, I didnt even say I thought he deserved to die. However, he is dead regardless and unless he really did fake it, it's going to stay that way. I dont think its faked, Hes not that rich.
This man destroyed the lives of thousands, not just with the destruction of so many livelihoods but also for his business conduct during emergency crises. Thousands die everyday, and this man was no different.
I will not mourn him, I will not shed a single tear for this DISGUSTING, VILE, MONSTER. I seriously dont know what philosophical context people fall under when they say "You are just as bad as him for not regretting his passing." That is nonsense. Nonsense that defies the history of civilization and the institution of survival. No culture in the world treats death the way you are.

Stalin tortured people.
Not personally, no. Like Saddam, proving he physically did the deed is tricky. He had his flunkies do it from them.
The government can and should help people get their money back, they can't breathe life into you.
Except the government can't magic money out of thin air. All that money was taken by the Enron execs and squandered away. So what do you propose then eh? Rob Peter to pay Paul? So what can they do then? In short, not much. The government and the taxpayers can't, and shouldn't, be made to pay for the crimes of others. And when the crimes of others are this bad to the point of utter ruin, the only thing left is to see that justice gets served.
Even if it takes death to do it.

Certainly. It goes nowhere when the other party refuses to rebut the argument, choosing instead to use pithy commentary and other shortcuts as if that would invalidate the opposing debater. It is a common tactic among NS General, but contributes nothing of substance.
