Also parents should take some action to check the internet history on their kid's computers and make sure they aren't doing anything dangerously stupid. Take some responsibility for your damn kids and don't expect the whole world to change just to keep your kid safe. I don't give a fuck about your offspring and neither does anyone else. I don't see anything wrong with Myspace. Myspace takes the necessary steps to protect users, but users also need to protect themselves. If a girl is stupid enough to give her info to some perv than she deserves to be raped. You really can't protect people against their own stupidity... Also, you can't ban every potentially dangerous website. Hey, even NationStates could be dangerous! I have quite a few "NationStates Buddys" myself. They will embed pictures, all the websites now are giving code specifically for embedding something in a myspace page. The people doing it are lucky to be able to use a computer, much less HTML.

Oh dear... I live in a small town in North Carolina, and trust me, every time I talk to a friend who has a Myspace thing I hear "Do you have A Myspace?" And I say "Yeah, but I haven't messed with it since March." Myspace isn't evil, it is just a medium. If you can blame all the abductions on Myspace, then you can blame swearwords and pornographic/violent drawings on your pencil and notebook. My 12 year old sister has a myspace, and she is on it every chance she gets. Every kid in my school has a Myspace, and some type in their addresses.

I dont see the point of shutting it down. Why not shut down AIM or YIM or MSN messanger while they are at it? There are more people being preyed on over those than myspace ever will. Since, not everyone uses myspace, only a few million and just about everyone in the world uses some type of instant messaging, that has a computer. Also there are some dangerous people on myspace, not in the physical sense though. Ill give you an example of what im talking about. When Napster was shut down for illegal music sharing, the people that shut them down got HACKED so hard that their servers were shut down for quite some time. And with more people using myspace than Napster you bet that, if they do, the people that shut down myspace will be very sorry, since anger, boredom, and competition are why people hack in the first place. So basicly the people that will try/will, will regret it later. Also what about the parents? How about they step in and see what they are doing online and see their myspace?

I'm afraid most of what I have is anecdotal evidence. I am not aware of any studies regarding Myspace and social connectivity, though there are studies that have shown a marked decline in social connectivity over the past few decades, and that trend is continuing.
