People! Come! Reminisce....
I love just wallowing in nostalgia, so tell me, what do you miss? What would you bring back if you could? Is there anything that you then took no notice of or despised but only now appreciate it now that it's gone? I miss huge glasses, I had a pair once and I hated them with a passion, but dammit, I want them back. And you know what? I miss duck hunt, and frogger, and clear pepsi, and big hair, and shirts with logos on them, and arcades that weren't yet filled with drugs, and when it was ok to give your baby rum just to shut it up, and when people ate meat, and when teenage mutant ninja turtles were all the craze(and my room plastered with all things tmnt and x-men), and when there was no question about bert and ernie's sexual orientation, and my brick gameboy, and i miss sonic and the shows with sonic and mario and zelda and when people were allowed to wear colours(all at once even), i miss jennifer aniston's hair, and fanny packs and saved by the bell...(stop me now or i'll go on forever....)

That is something I kind of miss. It was horrible mind you, but horrible in that peculiar way that only late 80s/early 90s teen television can be - horrible but lovable at the same time. It's a strange thing, and I think that it'll be a while before another decade can reproduce the feeling that late 80s/early 90s TV gave off.

yes, that is very true. i love those good horrbile things, things that you know are bad but you like anyway and a little bit because of it, kinda like liking david spader. i miss the early 90's, when most cartoons were just so right

I was a Ninja Turtle. I miss that job.
I miss arcades, too. And the quarter line.
I miss being a slacker without hearing the ticking clock of time.
I miss the slacker film revolution that I totally should have been a part of if I wasn't such a slacker.
I miss Need for Speed on the 3DO with the X-Man. "It's a liscence to drive, not destroy." "Redlining it all the way and making it pay. You got me man."
I miss my old 914. I miss the big chrome symbol on my Bus. I even kind of miss my big ugly Chevy Malibu Classic from high school.
I miss out lasting wait shifts at Denny's.
I miss getting up early in the morning to watch Mystery Science Theater 3000 when no one knew what I was talking about and thought I was crazy.
Same with Ren and Stimpy.
I miss my degree being potential instead of something already done.
I miss having a group of people around me who would do whatever fool idea came to my head.
I miss coming up with fool ideas.
I miss believing that change was right around the corner.

and when it was ok to give your baby rum just to shut it up,
Say what?
I don't miss the fucking 80's.
I don't miss the shitty Dungeons and Dragons cartoon, the shitty Transformers episodes whose animation was never as good as the opening sequences, the shitty "And knowing is half the battle!" GI Joe PSAs that were dumb enough my fifth-grade friends and I could see right through them.
I DO miss that feeling of "Holy Crap!" when me and my friends saw Roy Fokker get blasted away in Robotech. First actual death in cartoons we ever saw.
I don't miss shitty fake-ass "metal" that dominated the airwaves, forcing me and my friends to avoid almost everywhere in order to get away from it. I don't miss that by the time I got to high school, "hardcore" was divided mostly between wanna-be fascist skinheads and drug-swilling "headbangers", and had precious few real punks in it, let alone straightedge kids.
I DO miss that both metal and punk used to be things you had to be secretive about, because everyone thought it was goofy and a waste of time. It gave one a sense of accomplishment to find a good album or see a good show (even though, well, it was basically useless, and a waste of time.HA!)
I don't miss being just another stupid dork who wasn't even focused enough to cruise with the nerds, except as a second-stringer.
I DO miss that sense of "Oh my God this is amazing" when I finally got some action for the first time in the library at nerd camp, even though I was a stupid dork who wasn't really cutting it as a nerd.
I never thought things in the world at large were going to get "better", so I don't miss that.
Wierdly enough, I DO miss the sense of giddy, asocial vindication-to-come, knowing that we were going to get into a nukefight and the whole world and every bastard in it would be dead.
Wait, scratch that...what I mean is, I miss being able to think that way without feeling guilt and self-hatred. I am now constrained by this...spontaneous conscience.
I miss being just-turned-fourteen, being crushed out for the hottest Jock Amazon in school, and not knowing that she was going to grow up to be a drunken fuckin' failure.
I miss being in love for the first time, and not knowing it for what it was (hopeless).
I miss knowing that I would never change, ever. I miss always being grimly certain of one thing, myself. Now that's gone too.
Say what?
oh don't look at me like that, just soak the soother in liquor and he's out like a light...

I miss divided Germany, both pre-Empire and Cold War. The German plains seem to do everything better when they're rivals.
