Middle-clicking on a laptop

Citizens of NS-General, help me!

I'm going off to college this year and have a laptop; I'm currently porting files and programs over. After installing Firefox and Opera though, I ran into quite a distressing predicament.

HOW DO YOU MIDDLE-CLICK?

There MUST be a way, there HAS TO, right?

I mean, how do you survive without middle-clicking?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to solve my minor, irrelevant problem-of-the-moment :D

buy a USB mouse. The touch pad will piss you off to no end very quickly.

beyond that, you don't really need to middle click...

I'm reasonably sure that "middle-clicking" refers to clicking the mouse wheel like a button, which would imply having a mouse with a wheel in the first place. I use it on Google Earth all the time to tilt the viewpoint.

Seconded. Especially if you're trying to play games...

It's been beaten to death already, but here goes one more try: You do not really need to middle click that often, those touchpad things suck, get a USB mouse and you and your significant other will frolic in fields of posies.

Me too.

Left/right click are normal.
Middle click is set to 'double click'.
Left side button is cut and the right side button is paste :)

I've got one with about eight buttons and one of those big call things that can be pressed in, but, I don't like using any technology that appears that if I were to accidentally spill coffee on it, it could bring down the International Space Station.

Yeah. Couldn't live without that. And on a Mac, you wouldn't even have right-click. Oh my.

Get with the times. Macs new mouse has right click, left click, middle click, scroll up, scroll down, scroll left, scroll right. Just, no-one who has used a PC mouse will be able to successfully perform a click on the new Mac mouse.

That is how the computer sees it. It gets fun when you get into gaming mice. For example, the Logitech MX300 has 11 buttons.

You should do what I did, and get a laptop with a built in middle mouse button :P

But I now use a logitech mouse, cos it gives me enough buttons and enough response for gaming.

Now all I need is a cure for my lack of counter strike skillz.

file -> new -> navigator tab. That's in Netscape, obviously, but I shouldn't think it's all that different in firefox.

I don't even know why you'd need to be able to middle-click - and from what I've read here, I'm not the only one.

Also, unless you're into games, a touchpad is fine. I was without a mouse for so long, even now that I have one I'd rather use the touchpad.

HOW DO YOU MIDDLE-CLICK?

Assuming this laptop has two mouse buttons, try pressing both the left and right buttons at the same time (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle_click#Buttons).

No middle button is survivable. No scroll-wheel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle_click#Wheels), on the other hand...

I do know Apple's so-called "Mighty Mouse". Gave it a try myself, last week at an Apple store. But MacBooks (the Pros as well) still don't have more than one mouse button. Probably you should rather tell Apple to get with the times...

Funny thing is that in other forums where I have spent many a happy hour annoying mac zealots - they ALL applauded the one button mouse and said how great it was before reciting the mantra: Think Different....Think Different...Think Different

I love it when Mac zealots make a u-turn. Especially when you've been talking to the same one. You can SHOW them what they have written before and they still deny their old opinions after the holy order of Apple have altered their stand point on any particular piece of technology.

Apple Fanatics: if they weren't so bloody annoying, you could laugh all the harder at them!

Same goes for Windows zealots, and AMD Zealots, and the soon to re-rise Intel zealots, and maybe even UNIX zealots.

lol, i've heard of that before.

The last time I've installed from source was initng, and it didn't turn out. Other than that, just the newest fglrx driver before the deb was made.
