History Channel, what happend to you?
I mean, really.
The History Channel used to be cool. There were shows about guns, wars and so forth. There were lots of explosions and tanks and propeganda footage of WWII.
Now I turn on the TV, skip ahead to Modern Marvels and...its about cereal. How the HELL do you fill an HOUR with CEREAL?!? Show an hours worth of crappy 60's commercials? Talk about wheat?
The next day, theres a four hour special on some duel between Aaron and Burr. Yes, duels are fine. But four hours? Sheesh.
Hell, theyve even dropped World War Two, which half the shows used to be about.
One of the few things I really miss about the 90's was the History Channel having goods shows on practically 24/7. Tales of the Gun appears of have vanished for whatever reason, Modern Marvels has been pussified, and Histories Mystries somehow morphed into a crime drama.
I even miss Roger Mudd. That guy was exactly who you would expect to host a show about history, even if he was older than most rocks.

It's called The History Channel, not The Guns, Explosions, and WWII Channel. I hated it when all they coverd was WWII and military crap. They can and should cover the history of anything and everything. Even such non "macho" topics as cereal, cultures, or agriculture. What you are looking for is The Hopped up on Testosterone Channel. Talk to your cable provider.
But one thing that does bug me about the History Channel is all the UFO, "paranormal", and big foot crap. That's not history. Save it for Sci-Fi.

The history channel is eclipsed, in my eyes, by the History International Channel and the Discovery Times Channel.
The history channel became something other than it's name for me when they aired a program about finding a dragon's lair. A little too Sci Fi for something called the history channel.
But one thing that does bug me about the History Channel is all the UFO, "paranormal", and big foot crap. That's not history. Save it for Sci-Fi.
Meh, most of it does go into the history of these things, sightings, etc.
Thats why I don't complain about the religious stuff, I refuse to watch it, but its history regardless, so I don't ask them to take it off.

Exactly, they ought to make another channel for the fictional stuff like that.
It used to be the ultimate channel; guns, bombs, war and things that went boom.
Now its shit like "Mega Movers","American Eats", and of course we can't forget "Mega Disasters".
the civil war shows are still on at 7:00 am eastern time. they are showing some cool WW 2 stuff at 9:00 am eastern time.

If you want old-style documentaries, go to History International channel ( the logo for the channel says HInt). What about that the 'Shoot out' Series my favorites have to be the Iraq stories.
You read my mind. I used to love Modern Marvels; it always had interesting and engaging specials about great public works projects and construction efforts -- things like the Brooklyn Bridge, the Eiffel Tower, and the Great Wall of China.
Now, they've apparently run out of cool things to profile, so they're reduced to covering things like bricks. And runways. And glue.
Here are some actual episode titles of late, pulled from Wikipedia:
Lube Job (8/10/2005) [note: wtf?!]
More Snackfood Tech (12/20/2005)
Containers (1/4/2006)
Shovels (5/3/2006)
BBQ Tech (6/28/2006)
Yes, no modern marvel is more inspiring than Tupperware. Or shovels. It's a toss-up, really.

Its not just the military stuff, I miss Histories Lost and Found (which now shows on Mondays at 4 AM, I beleive. Too early for me.), the GOOD Modern Marvels about (as mentioned) the Eiffle Tower, computers, and similar things that warrant an hour of air time, rather than...shovels.
Dont even get me started on shows like Save Our History (although this one was showing in the 90's, at least), and...urgh...Back to the Blueprint.
Yes, they do occasionally do cool specials, Crusades: Crescent and the Cross definitly sounds good. And I heard about their Great Empires series, but it never showed up for me, it seems.
As to TLC...its dead to me...it died around '98, I think, when they stopped showing Junkyard Wars. The Discovery Channels only redeeming show is the Mythbusters :P

MTV no longer shows any music videos, neither does MTV2 (the one they made so they can still show their crap shows on MTV and please others with the MTV2 channel)

I don't get Sci-Fi here (Canada; we get Space instead, but I gather they're fairly similar in content) so I can't comment on the crappy acting - but I find the most frequent problems with lower-tier science-fiction productions to be sloppy direction, poor stories, and poorer dialogue.
Post-production shouldn't have to save every film made, and can't anyway. Even if there's a large enough budget (and there never is - I oughtta know).

They can either show B-movies that rival the made-for-tv shit Disney puts out for pure shittiness or they can put on wrestling, which I'm sure gets alot better ratings and more viewers. They are running out of shows they have the licenses to rerun incessantly because they have run them too much - it's old and boring.

I miss farscape. :(
Farscape was more like science fantasy, but at least it was more SciFi than what their programming shovels out now. I mean "ECW?" WTF, over??? :headbang:
WTF is up with the History Channel showing programs about this sci fi BS? Bigfoot, area 51, Aliens in the Bible, and so on...Crap I tell you! CRAP!.
I'd rather much watch a show on medieval life, or wwII, or the roots of modern civilization, or somehting on Alexander...NOt fricking aliens and mutated spacefeces

I'd love to see some stuff on the Iran/Iraq war, it's a shame that there are basically no documentaries about it :(
